Vacation carry help

I am going on vacation and can't decide what gun to take with me. All the states I will be in allow conceal carry with my permit and all but one allow open carry. I will mainly be on the beach during the day but out in town at night. My first thought was to take my smallest cheapest gun I have( KelTec P3AT)but I am having second thoughts. I have Sigs to pick from also. P229,P250 sub,P938,and P238. Last time I went I took the KelTec and left it in the condo during the day. Any thoughts to help me out?

Anytime I go on vacation I carry two guns for a few reasons:

1 You are probably not going to be familiar with your surroundings and we have ended up in crackdown a few times by accident.

2 Malfunctions happen and you never know when your primary will go down. If a spring breaks while you are arming up one morning you can just put it away and pull out the BUG.

3 My wife and I both have our permits and every once in a while we split up and go do seperate things. She may want to shop and I may go hike.

4 2 is 1 and 1 is none.
 
Whichever is comfortable to carry in whatever clothes you'll be wearing on the beach and around town. Personally, I'd take a couple. Probably a big un and a little 'un.

If it were me I would keep the autoloader away from the beach and sand.

They're ... all ... auto loaders. :confused:

'Sides, I'd rather have to clean sand out of an auto which I can strip down in a heartbeat than pull the sideplate on a wheelgun, but YMMV.

I agree and I EDC 2 on vacation as I do many days at home.

AND going another step,I have at least 1 more handgun in the truck safe and a long gun for a G.O.O.D. situation.

I look at it as cheap insurance and even if stolen [ not happened in the past 40 years I have done it ] its replacable and worth the peace of mind.
 
I don't carry a "tier 2" gun just because I am on vacation.

But its harder for sand to get into the internals on a revolver compared to a semi-

Well, probably so. But blown beach sand -- and certainly salt water and sand washed in after an accidental spill into the surf -- can go lots of places.

So it's almost a philosophical question: Would you rather have a gun that's 75% harder to get sand into, or 75% harder to clean sand out of?

Are you sure you feel like testing the tolerance for open carry in an area you may not be familiar with?

We travel a lot and I generally carry the same gun I carry all of the time at home, then throw a full size 1911, some mags and a few hundred rounds of ammo in a lock box.

I don't open carry anywhere. If I want to draw attention to myself I will leave my fly open;)
 
When I travel, it's usually a road trip. I bring my primary EDC (Kel-Tec PF9), a deep-conceal carry (Kel-Tec P32), and a .22LR. The primary is for both personal and lodging defense, and the DCC is for any situations in which I cannot effectively conceal the primary. The DCC is also stowed during travel in a place accessible while driving.
The .22 is in case I come across some place to shoot, and need to "scratch the itch."
 
The same one you carry when not on vacation.

I do agree with the suggestion for two however. Just in case something was to happen to one you still have a backup available. It is nice also if you decide to go grab breakfast or something to be able to leave one with your family. I tend to take a shotgun as well though.
 
I agree with the "2 is 1" philosophy but I usually go one step further and carry identical guns, usually 2 Kahr K9s or 2 Glock 19s. This way the 2 or 3 holsters and half dozen mags will fit either gun should one of them go down or be stolen.
 
Sorry, buy I do not see the need to carry on the beach - if you are going on vacation, pick a nice safe beach and focus your carry needs for elsewhere
 
I take my EDC, my EDC BUG, my rifle, and plenty of ammo anytime I stay overnight anywhere. You never know when and where a situation may arise, or something such as a disaster, civil unrest, etc. will happen between you and home base.

Sometimes easier said than done. Where I live, the beaches are pretty safe, though some of the more isolated coves can be a little creepy, but usually due more to perverse activity than predatory.

I usually don't carry on the beach, either (and I live on the coast.) But, vehicle burglaries at the beach parking lots are common. I'd rather my gun be with me than back there.

For many, it's the walk to and from the parking area that is the "be prepared" zone.
 
When going to the beach with a group in a very public area, I generally do not carry during the day when with the family. However, at night on the beach while fishing or walking or hanging out, I do have my G27 at the ready.

I truly wish I knew where,when or IF there was going to be a "poop hit the ventilation moment".

But since my crystal ball is at the cleaners,I CHOOSE to be prepared to keep me & mine safe at all times ---- if humanly possible.

Read up on Mumbai and tell me that after Boston you feel 'that' cant possibly happen to me and mine.

I do not fret or even think about what I EDC,just as I dont think about getting a flat tire because I have a spare tire.

Nor do I ponder if I will use my first aid kit that is in the car - or the fire extinguisher.

BUT be certain that I will know the moment they are needed.

That is the same as the tools that I carry and the carbine in the boot.
