My father has 5 boxes of 16ga paper hull ammo. He is interested in selling the ammunition, and asked me to find out what it's worth:

*Remington Express No 7 1/2 (Full box of 25)
*Winchester Ranger W No 9C (18 left in box of 25)
*Remington Shur Shot No 9C (13 left in box of 25)
*Western Super-X No 1 Buck (16 left in box of 25)
*Western Super-X No 4C (24 left in box of 25)
He bought the boxes in the late 1940's or early 1950's. I have photographs of the boxes and shells, if anyone is interested in seeing them. Any insight as to the value of the ammunition would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea what it would be worth, but I (and probably others) would like to see the photos if it's not too much trouble for you to post them. I think it's fun to see old ammo, especially stuff like paper hulled shot shells, or brass cased slugs.

I thought I had posted the pictures. Let's try this again....

i dont collect cartridges but someone who does would probably pay a couple of bucks per shell or someone might even want the boxes i know sometimes gunstores like to decorate there store with old ammo boxes and sutch so maybe you could make a trade with one for some ammo or something

The boxes are worth more than the ammo. The boxes should be in the $15-25 range, each, and the shells are worth about $1 a piece.

If the boxes are full of the correct ammo they would be worth slightly more.

I sold a bunch of 16 gauge ammo and boxes on this board for $20.00 good luck getting more, just remember when dealing with collectibles it's all about condition.

...And where you sell it. I sell and buy at local "outdoors" shows. You'll sell it for more face to face.

I realize that this is an old thread, however I will take a chance. I am looking for some paper hulled 16ga shells. A friend has a black powder 16ga shotgun. The plastic shells don't work well in it. So I told him I would look around and see what can be found. We are not looking for collector type shells, we are looking for paper shells in good enough condition to reload.

Hit me with a PM so that I get an email notification of you have any.

Thanks

I have a bunch of paper hulled 16ga. around, and i'm just shooting it up as i don't feel like dealing with trying to sell it...

I see plenty of it around here, so i doubt it's too valuable...

They are worth what ever a collector is willing to pay, put em on the NET & see what kind of offers you get................

You should be able to easily get $25-$35 a box if they are full of the correct shells! list them on an auction site like Gunbroker with a $25 reserve price and see what happens! Like has been stated, its all in the collector and what its worth to him! Ive seen 28 ga Peters with the Duck on the front sell for a $100! I stopped bidding at $50!

Drcook,
Have you tried the magtech brass 16ga shells? They are 2.5 inch and use large pistol primers. I use the 12ga ones for my black powder 12ga loads.

I have no idea if (as I said, looking for a friend) has tried all brass shells. I might have a lead on 50 fired cases for him. His chambers are shorter. He didn't say 2.5 or 2 9/16's though. He did tell me he has a fixture he uses for shortening them though.
