I would like to know the approximate value of my 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine in 44-40 (based on thge serial #) manufactured in 1875. It is missing the dust cover and has the usual wood dings. Other than that it is in good shape for it's age. There is one more problem. It was(through total stupidity)re-blued. Would appreciate any info.

That would be the first model. In excellent condition, with all parts and 90-95% original finish, they run around $12,000-17000. But refinished, with stock dings and a missing dust cover (would have been the "thumbprint" type), I would say along the lines of $5000, and that might be generous.

Many of those guns were heavily used, especially in the West, and are plain worn out, with the links loose and the holes worn egg-shaped. If the gun is tight, and the reblue is a good job, the price might be a bit higher.

AFAIK, there have been no repros of the old type dust cover, although repros have been made of the later types.
