I'm sure this gun isn't anything special, however, I have not been able to locate any specific information related to this rifle. What I have is:

Marlin 1894
.44 magnum
serial# 71 2422xx

With all info and pictures I find on the net I have yet to find anything that looks or sounds like my gun. The closest model was the 1894 .357 in a 16.5 barrlel and that only resembles my gun because it had the same ring and ring position holding on the fore stock.

The barrell is 19.5 inches (from end to where the barrell screws into the receiver.

The overall lenghth is just under 37.5 inches

This gun has a saddle ring.

Please help me to specifically ID this rifle and and get approximate value. This gun is in reasonably good shape. 99% blueing Wood has some handling marks and no dings

I can email pictures if someone thinks they can help! Thanks, Bob

First of all welcome to THR.

From your description, you have an 1894 "Cowboy ll" carbine. Production of this gun in .44 Mag. began in 1997. According to Blue Book of Gun Values, 29th ed., a 98% gun is $515, 95%- $440, and a 90% gun is valued at $330.

Hope that helps.......

I appreciate you taking a look at this...I thought the samething, some type of cowboy model. It may be, however it's not the one you describe...based on the serial# this gun was made in 1971. Thanks, Bob

YES!!! That is exactly what I have! Do you know where I can further research this gun? Thanks, Bob

In looking at the 2008 Standard Catalog of Firearms, there is a reference to this gun. Seems the attempts to chamber the 336 to .44 mag. were not going well because the action was too long for the short pistol case. This was actually the first chambering for the model 1894 Marlin beginning in 1969. From 1969 until 1971 there was a brass saddle ring. FWIW, they estimate an excellent gun to be worth $375.

We'll get it right sooner or later..............Al
