PPK 1968 value I ran across a 95 percent [imo] Walther PPK one mag at a lgs. Asking 1199 with tax I would be 1300. Is that something that is a fair value? I don't have pictures but I am not asking for an evaluation of this gun but of what the post war pre import ban ppk's go for. . Thanks.

German made PPK's are sort of rare because they haven't been brought into this country in over 50 years. PPK/S was the workaround solution.

I guess the way to find a price is to see what completed sales for that gun have gone for on Gunbroker.

A nice find.

I like that the original purchase form had boxes checked for both revolver and auto pistol. I guess the clerk didn’t know and hedged his bet.

I posted on your previous post about the pre-war PPK you have. I not an expert on these guns but I've had a few Manurhin PPK s and PP s in the past and have watched their prices over the years. I believe $1,300 OTD is a reasonable price and if I wanted one I'd do it. May as well try to get the seller to knock off the tax. All they can say is no. A $100 wouldn't keep me from buying though.

I find offering to pay in cash often nets the asking price or less, but tax included.

If nothing else, asking for a 3 or 4% reduction for cash is legit since they won't be paying credit card fees.

Another sweet looking Walther to add to your collection! I think you paid a fair price for something that is pretty rare and hard to come by. Well done!

I bought it at Cabellas locally. It was a new come in so it was not up on Cabellas on line yet. I applied for the credit card and they loaded it with 25 dollars that came off the top and I get 2 percent back on the 1300 so another 23 bucks to spend later. I asked about taking less but they don't deal. 1199 plus tax. Buying this way also no shipping or FFL fee although this would come under my C&R lisc.

My experience with the Cabela's in Columbus, Ohio Gun Library was they did come down. Pretty sure the gun was a S&W Model 17 and this was maybe 6 or 7 years ago. They came down about $50 as I recall and I got another 5% at payment for my veteran status which is on my Ohio drivers license. Now my wife just reminded me of another visit where the gentleman told me the gun I was interested in was a consignment gun and there was no coming down. I wonder if it varies by store? Additionally both of the experiences I mentioned were before Bass Pro and I used my Cabela's Black Signature card.

Anyway, sweet lil PPK and enjoy it.

I was looking at a used Walther PPQ at Cabelas 4 or 5 yr ago, and the young counter guy said he couldn't deal. We went to the "librarian" and he produced a list of guns that were to be reduced in price due to time in stock. Mine was on the list. Then I paid for it with Cabela's Club points.

$1199 ...

Think you can find a PPK of that vintage , in that condition , with all the goodies for less?

I doubt it.

I took one of those to Vietnam with me on first tour in early 1968 . I wasn't issued a gun for about 2 or 3 months and a .380 PPK just like that with two magazines and 50 rounds of Geco ball ammo got me thru Tet 68 . I traded it to an Air Armerica pilot for a Swedish K and 5 magazines loaded about 9 months into a 13 month tour . I sold the Swedish K on way out of country to a Crew Chief in Danang. There is a story about that.
. 380 original short handled PPKs have a pretty smart recoil with decent ammo like the old Geco ball. They can and do cut the hand in rpid fire. They are very accurate with 4-6" 25 yard groups very possible. They are indeed sweet. They were very popular during the Sean Connory James Bond years . They never were cheap and the original German ones were very reliable..

I have a 66 PPK in 32. I got it from a friend of mine. I was trading him an old Marlin O/U. Worth maybe $400 max at the time. He offered the PPK, even trade. I said it was worth a lot more than the shotgun. He responded with, " That's okay, you've done me a lot of favors". The gun came in the factory box with 2 factory mags.

It appeared unfired. It didn't take me long to change that. It's a real James Bond gun!!!

I only carry it on special occasions.

I now have 3 German made PP models in .22 .32 and .380 . They are from early to late 60s. They came with boxes and mags and the .22 with the test target . The PP size fits my hand perfectly and the balance and the longer barrels help accuracy over the PPK . They don't seem to cut the hand like the PPK grip does , letting hand move up under the recoiling slide. The .22 one was $700 10 years ago. The ,380 was $500 in the 90s and the .32 was the same about 15 years ago. The .32 has extra Italian Mecgar mags also , which are even better than original and is , along with the .22 the one that gets shot most, which is not alot.

I too find the PP to fit my hand better than any PPK I've ever shot. But of the designed for WWII German 32acp pistols I find the JP Sauer 38h the most comfortable and accurate, the Mauser HSc the most comfortable compact of the group then the Walther PP with the PPK the least desirable of the herd.
