A friend has a S&W .44 Hand Ejector Third Model, also called a .44 Hand Ejector Model of 1926 and wanted to know what the approx value for it is. The serial number is 344XX and he believes it was manufactured 3/1930. He is not selling just was curious about the value. Any guesses?

Looks like a refinish. If it's in good shape, locks up reasonably tight and has no apparent issues, I'd say $400-$500. Possibly less.

I have s/n 328XX which was shipped in March, 1929 so his date estimate is likely close. It appears to have been re-nickled since the hammer and trigger appear to be plated. I would guess that it's worth about $500 as a shooter if it is mechanically sound.

Definitely refinished. I have 2 just like it (1929 & 1938). These are sought after by collectors and shooters. I paid $650 for the first one after 20 years of fruitless searching and I thought I paid a bit too much (but it had been 20 years and I wasn't getting any younger). Then a month later I found the other one tagged at $450 and walked away with it for $400.

Absolutely beautiful! Those wheelers represent the high water mark for S&W quality. $650 was certainly not too much to pay---$450 is downright ridiculous! Funny how it takes forever to find one, then another pops up in no time.

As for the revolver in the OP--I agree with the other posters--definitely refinished.

Absolutley beautiful is correct. All you need to go with it is a bull whip and a fedora and you're there.;)
