Value of .32 S&W Pre Model 30 I frame

About 5 mos. ago I bought what I believe is a Pre 30 S&W hand ejector. It's 5 screw and flat latch I frame with a ser # of 6096XX. I think that puts it about '53 or so. No box, tools, papers, etc. but gun appears almost new. Circumstances are gonna cause some gun sales. I took a quick pic, and gun has no flaws. Any idea of value?

I'd say you have a $300.00 - $350.00 piece. Check the 2006 edition of Flayderman's book of gun values. I'd "kill" to have a piece like that! I consider that that be the ultimate "concealment/backup" piece that there is! I am green with envy!

I hope that this helps,

Scott

Thanks for replies. I paid too much for this gun on an impulse buy. I know you've been there. I'm at a point where I have to sort out what I need and safe queens. Thanks again.

Funny... if you "blow up" pic I submitted the gun is got dog hair and dust or something on it. I ain't no photog, that's for sure. Durn dogs.

The flat cylinder latch was introduced in 1950 or 51 on this model. The "Improved" I-frame with a coil mainspring came along in 1953 (no strain screw toward the bottom of the frontstrap), and the upper sideplate screw was eliminated in 1955 at #640980. This should help you date the gun.

It appears to be in the kind of condition collectors fight over, and is a in a configuration that isn't often found. I think gunfan's price range is on target.

I don't know what you paid, but don't worry, whatever it was the value will catch up before long.

Bluebook values are sometimes a bit behind the times because the data is compiled well before the book is published. It also doesn't take into consideration guns that are in exceptional shape within a particular category.

A better reference is to watch top dealers, such as Jim Supica at www.armchairgunshow.com

Also you can follow the Internet auctions, but ignore what is ask, and keep track of what a piece actually sells for - if there are any bidders - which sometimes there aren't. :uhoh:
