Value of Dan Wesson .357 Magnum??

Hello Folks,

I have a Dan Wesson .357 Magnum Model 15-2, blued, with a 6" vented barrel and a 4" vented barrel. It was manufactured at the Monson, MA factory. The condition is about 90%-95%. Mechanically it is in excellent condition with less than 2 boxes of ammunition put through it. If I were to sell this set up what would be a fair face-to-face purchase price?

It's a little hard to tell 100% from the pics, but I trust that is a stainless steel version? If so, those are more rare, and worth more.

Given that you have all of the tools and an extra barrel, somewhere in the $500-600 range would be reasonable, I think. FWIW my local shop had a 9.25 inch Dan wesson in 44 mag, no tools or anything, Monson made, for $399. Someone picked it up before I could get there They also have a 4 inch Palmer made .357, with no tools, stainless, for $499. That price struck me as high.

Blue Finish

No...I wish it were stainless...It is has a blue finish. How much does that effect the price?

Rem700...$100...I wonder who would be getting the better end of the deal...ha ha.

I have a .357 Magnum DW Model 715-2V (stainless) as well as a Model 15-2V (blue) Pistol Pack. I’m always on the prowl for a .44 Magnum and .22LR as well.

In my area (Central Maryland), I’d say a Model 15-2V with one barrel would sell for about $300-$350. The extra barrel would bring the price up to $400-$450. These are retail prices. FTF private sales would probably be a little less. I’ve seen them priced higher, but they don’t sell. Unfortunately, Dan Wesson revolvers don’t command as much interest and money as they should.

Keep in mind that DW (especially Monson guns) prices seemed to have moved up a bit recently. This may or may not continue with the current National economic situation. Also, since CZ purchased DW a couple of years ago, parts and service are currently available.

Serial Number and Manufacture Date

By the way, does anyone know about when this gun was made? The first 3 serial number digits are 190xxx. Does that in any way effect the value?

From what I understand from the DW online forum (Yahoo group), there exists little to no records regarding manufacture dates and production totals prior to CZ (current) ownership. I hope I’m wrong.

I copied this directly from the forum homepage:

“Help with tracing the "lineage" of Dan Wessons has been a frequent request of the members. Production year information and/or values would be a great asset.

1971 - 1992 Monson, MA
1992 - 1995 Palmer, MA
1997 - 2005 Norwich, NY Under Bob Serva
2005 - current Norwich, NY CZ owned (these guns will say CZ on them)”

Finally, I’ve heard that the Monson production guns (the frame will be marked) may be the best, then the Norwich guns, finally, the Palmer ones. I have heard some folks say to avoid the Palmer guns altogether. I wouldn’t know personally, as both of mine are Monson production and are fine revolvers.

I saw one in a shop down here that was in excellent shape for $350. I would've bought it but I am not really a revolver guy anymore.

$350 is an average price for one with 1 spare barrel, tool, and shim/spacer.
Though, as previously mentioned, prices are on the rise for the DW as people are probably starting to figure out how good of a firearm they are, and they are in production again by CZ.

Personally, I hope the prices stay low so I can buy more. They're like one of the best kept secrets in wheelguns, much like the CZ pistols.

However, if you wait for the right buyer and you've kept your wheelie in excellent condition, you can get more.
