Value of Early (1986) Springfield 1911-A1

I have my fathers Springfield 1911-A1. It has the Cross Cannon logo before the ejection port on the slide. Serial begins with "NM", from which I have determined means it was assembled in the US. Its parkerized with plastis grips.

Shot very little, less than 500 rnds. Have original cardboard box and all paperwork that came with it at purchase. Also is holstered in a Springfield Armory canvas GI style rig.





Wondering value of this pistol. Not selling, but figure its worth more than the $350 the local dealer said its worth. He really wanted me to sell it to him....

The guns is worth $350 to $400 depending on the market and the buyer. Nothing special about it IMHO. It is a decent base 1911 but you can buy the equivalent for $515.00 or so + transfer.

Yes the NM marks mean it was assembled here in the US but it was assembled from parts made and finish at the Imbel plant in Brazil. The NM prefix does not mean it is an early production gun although it might be true for this one. There NIB guns with the NM mark rolling out all the time. It really only means more than 50% of the work was done in the US IIRC.

People believe that they are worth more because of this designation I personally do not. They are still nothing but a SA GI built on Imbel parts just like every other SA. They do not get more hand fitting like the Pro models or even the TRPs. These low end GI models are simply slapped together check for basic fit and function and then sent on their way.

Enjoy the pistol. The offer was fair. IMHO

$350-$400 is correct, I've seem them new for under $500

I have had one of these since the 90's, it is the only 1911 pattern pistol I have had that didn't require some work of some sort to keep it running reliably.

The price range is pretty much correct; somewhere between $350 to $400. When they were first introduced in the U.S. in the mid '80's, I believe they retailed for around $249. Those quickly sold out and I think on the next production run, the price was increased to $289. Fairly well built guns that sold rather well at the time because of increasing market demand for M1911's.
