My father is considering selling his marlin 336 to his friend. He hasn't been hunting in years so it's mostly just been sitting in his safe for the past 8 or so years since he got it new. It's got less than 40 rds through it (mostly by me:)) and is in perfect condition. He wants to give his friend a decent deal (the friend doesn't really know the value of it either).

I told him $320 would probably be fair. I figure it's a little low, but the guy has been his friend forever and he wants to give him a deal. What do you guys think?

id say 300 is fair

if he wants a good deal he can go to pawn shops and find used ones for 150-300 all day long

does yours have the walnut stock?

I can buy a new one in my area with a 3-9X33 scope for $349. I would say $250 if its in primo condition.

I just bought a brand new 336 in 30-30 (iron sights, no scope, sling) for $318.
After deer season closes, lots of deer rifles go on sale.

On the other hand, you can claim that it's "rare" just like all those online auctions, and double its value.

i see them in pawn shops often for 200-250. if its in excellent shape with only 40 rds through it like you say 300 would probably be an alright price.

Ok thanks a lot guys, guess the online auctions are a bit high, that's where I got my guestimate from.

jackdanson, when you look at the on line auctions, search the completed auctions and see what they have sold for, not what someone is asking. Two very different amounts.
