In a recent thread, someone noted there are a good amount of US-made Winchester 94 rifles going for $300-400 out there. If the typical condition of those is not excellent, how much does one have to spend roughly to acquire one in excellent shape?

The lever action Winchester models in .357 mag., how much do they go for in excellent shape?

A post 64 model 94 in 30-30 in excellent shape would be in the $500-$600 range I'd think. There are so many factors and rifle quality has been all over the place since the 1960's. Exactly when it was made matters. The 64-79 rifles are the least desirable to me. Winchester was bought out by investors and most of the rifles made during the 1980's and 1990's are generally better quality. Quality started to slide a bit the closer you get to 2006 when they closed the New Haven factory.

But many people don't consider anything made after 1980 to be a true Winchester and would pay more for the pre 1980 rifles.

The pistol caliber 94's are not at all common and bring more money than a 30-30. I don't see enough of them to even guess at value. I do know that the shorter 357 and 44 mag cartridges often have trouble feeding in the longer 30-30 length 94 action. The Winchester 92 was really designed for that length cartridge. Marlin originally offered their pistol caliber cartridges in the 336, had feeding issues and solved them by only offering them in the shorter Marlin 94 action.

With PCR stuff deer legal in previous non rifle states, and the web making the whole country a customer.........prices on .357 and .44 mag 94's are on the high side (read: no bargains to be had). Pre 64 in .30-30 standard stuff..........seen em on gunshop racks near 800.
None in last 2 shops I went to. Dunno what they really sold for.

Just look at bids on Gunbroker........seems to be close to what stuff goes for elsewhere (if signed in can search completed sales and average them).

I picked up a model 94 chambered in 30-30 from 1958 with some pitting for 500 bucks. It had only been fired a half dozen times. A few people have looked at it and said I could get about 750-800 for it. I was offered 400 bucks at the gun show, go figure.

Not excellent condition but good. This is a 1952 1894 in .30-30 I picked up in a pawn shop in Kingman Arizona for $400.00. But that was three years ago.

I don't see them that cheap any more. Post 64 for 4-500 but the pre 64 in good to very good condition are pushing a grand.

I've seen a Winchester ranger 30-30 on our local armslist for $400, been for sale for a few months. No takers. Granted the rangers have lower quality wood and bluing, but it is still a Winchester 30-30.
