Alternatives to Varget

Varget has been the best overall in my 8mm rifles. Also use it in some Garand loads. But since I was getting down to a pound I decided to try some powders I've used that are in the same burn rate range. RL15, I4064, VV N140 all come pretty close. I use N540 or N550 in my .308 Varmint rifles and am ok on those. Since 4064 and RL 15 seem to be more readily available I ran some tests with those powders and the Hornady 8mm 150sp and 170 rn and those two powders work just fine. But, Hornady has not yet lifted its suspension of about 150 bullets so the 150sp and 170 rn are in limited supply. I've been able to find Sierra 150spt and Hornady 170 sst bullets in 8mm and with RL15 and I4064 come up with some tight shooting loads in 8mm.

The powder I used most in the Garand's is VV N135 with the Hornady 155-A and 168-A. In those rifles, I can alternate with S168mk and RL15 and get good results.

The gun show in Atlanta didn't have any Varget. I did see (1) 1lb can of Reloader 15 for $37. Pass. They were really scalping the limited powders this past weekend. Worst I've seen in some time.

I don't usually buy online unless I have to. local is always out of stock though. Been playing round with 4lbs reloader 15 I got from grafs.com 4 days ago..

.380~ groups "pretty much same hole" at 110yards. with 41.8gr. reloader-15 , Hornady match brass and 175gr. SMK from savage 10FP pretty happy with it so far lol

Very little Vhitavouri Rifle and NO PISTOL, all at Camp Perry National Matches this past Monday.

NO WST, WSF, W-231 or HP-38

Primers Galore were there too.

Ya, I'm kind of in the same boat. I was using it for some light varmint bullets in .243 with great results. It'll be back, just got keep your eye's open.
