There seems to be a lot of different 7.62x39 rifles for sale now.

Disregarding the mag capacity question, what have been some of your experiences with the different weapons?

I have a Yugo variant of the SKS, but right now, I am seeing the Saigas, the WASR-10's, some AK variants, too, with the WASR-10 as the highest price. {not speaking of C&R prices, but price paid by Jon & Jan Q. Public-Citizen buying off-the-shelf at places like Big-5, Dunhams, etc}

My SKS shoots as well as I am capable of shooting, and always goes Bang!; just wondering how other folks like their different rifles.

Looking through a couple of sales flyers, the Yugo SKS is about $150, up to $350 for the WASR-10.

The AK variants (VEPR, Saiga, WASR-10, SAR-1, etc) are not C&R anyway.

SKS's are great rifles.

If you want a 30-40 round detachable mag though, then you are looking at an AK variant. I have two SAR-1's. The WASR-10s are ok, as long as they did a good job milling out the mag well. The general finish of Saigas and VEPRs is higher than WASR-10s.

I have seen some companies offering 7.62x39 AR varients.

Edit: I see you wanted advice or experience with the various firearms, I have only fired them and not owned them. However I was surprised with the light kick of the SKS. It was very controllable.

I'm fond of both the SKS & AK, but if you like the more traditional hunting rifle, CZ makes a very nice bolt action carbine in this caliber. Turkish walnut stock. It is short & easy to carry, weighs next to nothing, & has a detachable 5 round magazine. Not to mention nice open sites & a single set trigger.
