I just bought my 1st AR-15 rifle. It has a 16" barrel with a 1in 9 twist. My question is will the V N 55 grain soft point fly apart when fired out of this gun. If any one has used combination please let me know how it work for you.

Thanks very much for your responses Mark.

NO, it will not fly apart in a 1-9 twist barrel.

The 55gr bullets work extremely well in the 1-9.

Joe, I am sure the 60-65 grain bullets will shoot well I was looking for something a little cheaper. Thanks for the replay.

I just started loading those for my 1 in 8 AR. Very accurate with both H322 and H335. Shot them along with some Nosler Varmageddon and they were just as good. Accuracy also beats my Privi factory loaded ammo by quite a bit-and for factory ammo, it shot pretty well.

The best part is the price! You cant beat them IMO. Good for paper, or critters. All purpose projectile at garage sale prices.

It is rumored the Midway Dogtown bullets are Noslers, and the Varmint Nightmare are Hornadys. Search the forums and you'll find the pics. It sure seems both are re-branded products.

Don't 55 grainers work well in any .223 barrel twist?
no. Most will, but not all. I have a 1:12 mini mauser that will print dime sized groups with 50's. step up to 55grn and groups open up to 2-3"

I've had it do with with 3 different bullet brands, 3 different powders, and about 10 different powder weights with each. It's not exhaustive, but I gave up trying to make 55's work and just rock the 50's.

Thanks for all the replies. The AR should be at my FFL on Mon. I hope to be able to shoot it Mon. night. I will be ordering the Varmint Nightmare bullets in a couple weeks. I am looking forward to working up some loads for it.

Best as I can tell the Midsouth hollow points are Nosler and the Soft point with channel lure are Hornady.. I have both and really like them.

Oldreloader, thanks for the information. I was planning on getting the soft points. I am planning on going out today to look for a rear sight and some ammo so I can try it out tomorrow.
