I thought I had pretty much decided on an AK after doing a bunch of reading here and elsewhere, this one:

However, now I'm looking at this one as well:

I haven't really heard anything about Lancaster AKs, but I like that this one already has all the rails and whatnot I would be interested in adding anyway. Is the Lancaster on par with the Vector, or would I be better off getting the cheaper Vector and adding stuff to it?

If the Vector is a better route, where should I get all my tacticool rails and whatnot?

try finding an older vector with a chrome barrel
I have a vector underfolder and I love that gun.
Never held a lancaster but I heard they're a good build.

Only 2 replies? Some help you guys are:D

Sounds like I'll probably go with the Lancaster...

If you can find an Arsenal, Inc.

grab it. Don't know if they're still making them or not, but I think they're the best AK's ever built, bar none. I've got one with a milled receiver and side folder that compares very favorably in quality and solidity to my Galil . . . and that's saying something!

After them, I like the Vectors.

Good luck

did a bunch of AK research last year, almost bought a vector underfolder, but got something else instead. now i regret it. last spring i finally got one, a lancaster romanian G model. i got it because it was cheaper, they also has a very good rep, a lifetime warranty,a better finish and a chrome lined barrel, which the vectors no longer have. i'm pretty happy with it, and it's been totally reliable and beer-can accurate right out of the box, no adjustments at all.
as for atlanticfirearms....have you read all the crap those guys make you jump through to purchase a firearm ? it's ridiculous. and try sending them an e-mail, then wait two days for a borderline-rude,half-sentence response that still doesn't asnwer all your questions. i know some guys like them, but that's been my experience more than once. hope this was helpful.......m.

Guess I'm the only one that thinks the M4 style stock on an AK-47 looks silly.

You could also get a Tromix Saiga for that price as well. Just another thought.

Check out FBMG's prices on Vector rifles also. Cheaper than that link shown anyway.

Saw an Arsenal at the gun show this weekend, what a beautiful weapon. It was an AK with build quality comparable to most name-brand ARs.

I've got the Lancaster. I called lancaster direct and had them build it with a 1.6mm reciever it took them 4 weeks but they delivered a great rifle...yes the barrel is chrome lined:

I have an Arsenal SLR-95 Milled receiver. I bought it at a pawn shop for so little I will not even mention it! I took it down to Vector arms (a few miles down the road from me to have it brought up to sped with all the US made parts to comply with silly ATF Regs and they actually offerd to buy it from me! They said that they have less than 50 Milled receivers left and no more in sight. their milled guns are close to a grand at this point! I will certainly be hanging on to this one evne if it doen't see much range time. I seem to forget I have it amongst the other toys in the box! I was pretty impressed with the guys at vector in prices and service. That lancaster in the pics from someones post looks pretty bad A$$ though!!

Damn... I wish I had seen that tactical Lancaster before I had gotten my Saiga... not that there's anything wrong with the Saiga.
