Has anyone had experience with this South African import? Good/ Bad/ In Different? Some MIL/LEO trade-ins .40 cal have come available and I don't know anything about them.

I seem to recall these are like the Beretta 92 (locking block operation) only with an enclosed slide. That's about all I know, and even then I might be remembering incorrectly.

Edit: See world.guns.ru/handguns/hg30-e.htm for a description.

A buddy of mine who was in the South African Army loves the SP1 which he carried there and is still trying to figure out a way to get his pistol shipped to the US without making waves.

His mom carries the SP1 General's Model (Compact) and she loves it and is quite deadly with it. Based of the Beretta 92, it's reliable and shoots great.

Just bought one also.

I just bought one because I wanted to try out something different. It being $300 with two mags, 50 rounds of fiocchi, and tactical holster had nothing to do with it. I've only fired it a few times. I like the way it feels so far. My only problem is that I originally wanted a 9mm; but couldn't pass up on some more knock down power. If you know anything funky, feel free to let me know. I also would like to know who sells the 9mm conversion kit for this thing.

I absolutely love mine!

I was able to take the SP-2 out to the range again a few days ago. My brother and I were having competitions with it, and we ended up putting some blank sheets of 8.5x11 out at 50 yards. We'd each shoot a mag (I only have post-ban 10ers) and after a while we'd get consistenly ~8-9 hits on paper. The accuracy is unbelievable. Of course, later on we'd go to the 3 yd. berm and fire it as fast as we could, with a nice tight group of 2-2.5 feet. :D Recoil is mild thanks to the heavy (relatively, compared to a Taurus or Beretta 96) enclosed slide. I've never had an FTE, FTF, or any sort of problem and have fired Federal American Eagle, Federal Premium HP, and Wolf through it.

The only drawbacks I can forsee are if/when something fails and breaks, parts are going to be quite hard to get here in the US. If something bad happens to a mag, I'll have to modify more Beretta 96 mags (or try Tauri).

But all in all, it's a great gun. :)
