I've been going through my old notes and must have lost the chronograph records for Double Tap .380 95 gr. controlled expansion ammo. If I remember right it was rather fas with a lot of recoil for an eleven oz. pistol. Do any LCP shooters here have verified velocities for the cartridge? Any help would be appreciated. Good shooting ' to ya'

I do not have verified personal insight with Double Tap.

I probably wouldn’t recommend these velocities in the original LCP. I ended up with a slide on the ground at 950 fps. I went to a P380 - stronger in my opinion. Brutal at 950 though. My trigger finger nail is just growing back out after some HSTs. I went to Hornady Critical Defense - and I’m an HST fan.

NewMexJim, that doesn't look good. I haven't had the slide come off my LCP but did shear off the take down pin with BB+P ammo. They clocked about 1050 fps. Not fun shooting.

My first LCP, the takedown pin came out and the slide flew off on the range much to the amazement of my buddies and me. I sent it back to Ruger, and they sent me a new pistol. The second LCP wallowed out the takedown pin hole in the frame, the pin backed out and the slide also came off. I sent that back, and they sent me a new one. They offered to upgrade me to an LC9 which I didn't want. I mean the LCP is such a sweet carry gun. The third one appealed to my daughter who continues to carry it with moderate level carry ammo - Critical Defense, CoreBon, and the like.

I went P380, and I'm happy I did. My gripe is that the trigger guard is a bit small and recoil from heavier loads pinches my finger. The answer to that is low-level reloads and Critical Defense which has a mild recoil.

Went to the range and found the DT just too powerful for a quick 2nd shot. Have some old Gold Dot and Corbon that work great. Never had the slide come off but sheared some take down pins. Got pretty good at replacing them myself after watching a youtube video. After sending the LCP into Ruger a few times I got tired of the hassle, but they do have a great fix or replace policy. Sent me a new LCP after the rear of the frame developed a crack around the pin holes . That was caused by some overly hot reloads., Don't tell Ruger.

Ohhh, I understand. There are stronger .380s out there like the P238 but you lose the weight advantage which I really like for summer.

Had a Sig 232 which I put many rounds through, but weighed 18+ oz.. LCP was better for summertime. The P232 was a beautiful gun but after 10 years of continuous use the take down lever and take down block broke and could not be replaced by Sig., it had been discontinued.. They offered to replace it with a P226 to which I said "yes please". Still miss the P232 though, one of those guns that you just wave toward the target and hit your mark.
