So the LGS has the T/C venture on sale for $350 and T/C is running a $50 rebate. So for $300 I figure I can toss one in the safe. Heard a bit of good about them. Now for the question. What caliber? They are running that price for .223, .22-250, and .308. Now, I really don't have a need for any of these calibers. I've got everything to reload for the .223 as well as some old bulk reloads for an AR. I'm probably going to pass on the .22-250 since I really don't varmint hunt and anything it does better than the .223 isn't going to be utilized. The .308 sounds fun, I guess it just sounds "American" to own a .308. Don't really have a use for a .308 over a .223 and the .223 would be cheaper to shoot. But for some reason a .308 sounds fun as well.

The advertisement says they are 24" fluted barrels with a synthetic stock. I wasn't aware the Venture came in a 24" fluted barrel.

Anyways, which caliber would you buy? Varmint hunting typically is within .22lr range. The longest shooting range I have access to is 100 yards. Just moved to where you can hunt deer with a centerfire, but all the land I currently have to hunt on is in a state where you are restricted to either shotgun or a pistol (well muzzleloader and bow as well). So which would you get in my situation?

Buy the .308 and work on getting permission to hunt in your new area! Sounds as if you already have the .223 covered and you NEED a deer rifle. Best of luck!!

Well, I sold off the AR to fund a Europe vacation so I currently have no rifles in any of the calibers listed. I'm also not much of a hunter to be honest. I've gone deer hunting once, and I don't see doing much of it in the future. If I do go, it would be with the guys from the previous state, and it would be back there as well.

I see the the VAST majority, if not all of the shots coming out of this rifle heading down at a shooting range. I would exclude hunting from this rifle's use.

If you are shooting under 400 yards at the range, then I would say .223 from your information.

The only way to get a Venture with a fluted barrel is to get the predator series, which is a camo gun. This gun retails for more than the standard Venture. I have a hard time believing your LGS can sell that gun for $350. Awesome deal for you if it's legit, but sounds too good to be true to me. I'm surprised to see the standard Venture being sold that cheap.

I stopped in today. They are the standard venture. Next week a tc rep is going to be there. If you buy one then, they will pay the rebate in person so you don't have to wait for it to come in the mail. Only real questions I have left are regarding twist rate. What are the twists of all three? I didn't see it listed on the tc website.

it is on their site...click caliber chart...all the way to the right

.223 and .22-250 are 1 in 12
.308 is 1 in 10
