This kind of thing is a good idea but it's more likely to pass in a small town (like when Kennessaw Georgia passed an unenforceable ordinance to require everyone to have a gun).

Nobody sees the possibility for misuse here? You have all the names for all the people who don't have guns, so that kind of narrows it down. And what are the implications if such records get into the wrong hands?

Neat idea, but it's wrong. I might even say it's just as wrong as registering gun owners. More laws don't make things better.

i believe the registration of anything is wrong (its no ones business but yours what you own)... but this is a step in the right direction for pro gun advocates

The whole two wrongs don't make a right thing comes to mind.

I just don't think this is advancing the cause. It's showy, radical, and unwise.

Switzerland does alright, I suppose. They have that whole militia thing wrapped up nicely. Swap security for personal freedom. But how much security would you gain, and what freedom would you lose? Is losing freedom ever worth it?

It's a funny idea by a state rep, meant to draw attention to VT's great stance on gun ownership and 2A issues. More a publicity stunt than anything. Won't happen.

I believe Kennesaw, Georgia still has an ordinance on the books requiring heads of households (with certain exceptions) to keep at least one firearm in their homes.

It's a novelty idea just to prove a point, but it's not a good point anyway. America is about freedom, a person has the freedom to be armed or not. To force them towards that is contrary to the beliefs this nation was founded on.

It was to make a statement to the anti-gunners. Even the guy who proposed it would probably have voted against it had it ever come up for a vote.

Kennesaw, Georgia did the same thing with their ordinance. It was done to make a statement in response to Walnut Grove, Illinois, banning guns. No one is Kennesaw gets checked to learn if they don’t have a gun.

I saw this on another forum maybe a month ago.

IIRC, it never happened, and the guy who brought it forward isn't in office anymore.

I do like the sentiment though.

Opps, saw SFC Mark beat me to it.

Had a great quote in it. I had to add it to my sig line.

America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the %@$(@)&$.
