After not bowhunting for 12 yrs. I got a chance to hunt a woods, I could
only hunt during bow, someone else would be gun hunting. My Hoyt bow needed new strings, but didn't have time to have them made, they were weak
but have to do. 2 weeks ago I put my stand up, I picked a good spot, an the first day out had a big 8 or 9 pt. come past an at 20 yards I wacked a tree branch instead of the buck! The last 2 weeks have seen 5 different bucks an missed chances at all of them, misses, tree branches...instead of feeling like a pro with 17 deer under my belt with bow in years gone by....I felt like a broken man that would never hunt again....part of my problem was starting late an not pruning before season, but didn't know I would be hunting, an after 12 years my eyes are not as good, my peep site of 1988 has a 1/16 hole an my eyes in low light can't find things as fast or see everything, so 2 days ago I drilled it out to 3/16 of an inch an its so much better...this morning I took off work an at 9:00 am a 6 pt, came withing 75 yds an then turned to walk off, once again using my own voice I made a doe bleat several times an once again another buck comes right towards me, At 20 yds I found the pin, this time judged the range right, an saw no limbs or twigs....after the shot he ran about 70 yds. an was down....It may not be a trophy, but I was getting hungry! A good Veterans day for this Vet....glad I didn't give up this season.
