Drafted in Jan 68, but spent my entire tour stateside mostly at Fort Campbell. Assigned to HHC USAGAR. Worked at a detachment of the stockade, which was full to the gills. It seems when the 101st left for Nam as a Division deployment many decided not to participate. We picked em out of the woods and the woodwork for the next several years. Housed in concertina wire enclosures and squad tents.

Carried a 1911.

PCS: Vietnam 1 tour, Thailand 1 tour, Germany 3 tours, CONUS
TDY: just about everywhere

M16, S&W Mod. 15, M3A1, M2 Carbine, 1911

Never served. It's my biggest regret.

I am eternally grateful to all of you who have. Thank you so much for your service and the proverbial blank check that you all made out.

My family and I are indebted to you.

299th Eng Bn attached to the 24th ID in the Gulf War. Carried an M-16A1, but was issued 62gr ammo for the A-2, cause that's all they had.

Had an M-203 and M-60 in my squad too.

I joined the US Navy in 1969. After boot camp and "A" school at Great Lakes, I was sent to the USS Ranger CVA 61 - Top Gun of the Pacific Fleet: "Top Gun; Bar None". From there I went to Nuclear Power School - class 69-3. After that, I went to prototype and trained on the S5G reactor simulator. Sadly, part way through protoype I was medically discharged for a chronic nerve condition.

Today I proudly displayed my American flag on our front stoop and carried my Glock 23 with CTC laser. The flag was a gift from my bride who is also a Navy veteran.

USAF LE/K-9. Primary weapon was the GAU/5A (XM177, Colt Commando, take your pick of nomenclature). I also drew a 4" Mod 15 Combat Masterpiece. That right there oughta date me pretty well :D

USAF 1970 to 1978,,,

In Germany I was assigned to a true Cowboy's command,,,
We were couriers and he insisted we all go armed,,,
He got no arguments from me on that count. :D

I couldn't go 20 feet without someone challenging me,,,
My written orders authorizing my handgun were well worn pieces of paper.

I was issued a S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece.

My very short stint in Viet Nam,,,
I carried the same standard issue Model 15.

Thank you, Ben. But don't worry about not serving in a uniform. You've done your part for the 2A.

And I must say, for many of us, ending up in the military was accidental or forced.

Don't have any regrets. You are a fine American. :)

There are not a lot of guns on submarine tenders; other than 4 big 5 in "38"s, (don't ask me what the "38" meant ),..............

Well, I'm an old Infantry soldier, but I know what thart term is. In Navy ordnance parlance, guns were designated by bore size and tube length. The 5"-38 caliber gun was the most used gun on destroyers and samller vessels, and secondary armament for cruisers. Carriers and battleships carried 5"-50 calibers.

The term refers to a gun with a 5" bore and a tube length of 38 calibers, or 5" x 38 =190" or 15'-10" long. The 5"-50 caliber was 5" x 50 = 250", or 20'-10" long.

USCG - Outer Banks, NC - 1966-1970.

I imagine you carried a lot of Dramamine. That's what I wish I'd had the couple of times I've been off Nags Head fishing.

USAF 1987-1995. Flight Nurse, C130's and C141B's. Carried a S&W Model 14 in a shoulder holster inside my flight suit during Just Cause in '89 and on a couple of flights into Dhahran in '91. FN's are technically non-combatants, but we were armed to protect ourselves and our patients, JIC.

USN Chief Aircrew Survival Equipmentman. 1973-1995

Carried an 85 aircraft Airwing. ;)

I was a "grunt" Marine in I Corps, RVN in 1969 and 1970. My first tour, with the 26th Marines, I carried an M-16, plus all the various odd tools of the grunt. Claymore mines, M-26 frag grenades, smoke grenades, pop-up flares, etc.
And an occasional 60mm or 81mm mortar round in my pack.

On my second tour, with the 1st Marines, I carried an M-79 grenade launcher, with the requisite accompanying Colt 1911A-1 .45acp pistol. The weight of the bag full of grenade rounds for the blooper relieved me of having to carry much of the other stuff.

Walter..."The Blooperman" ;)

M1 Tanker from Oct '09 - Nov '12. Did one tour in the sandbox where I carried an M249 since we mostly did dismount duties with an M9 Beretta on backup.

USMC 2009-2014. Deployed to Helmand, Afghanistan 2011-12. The Marine Corps had just begun issuing the new M27/HK416 to automatic Rifleman instead of the saw. I was lucky to be issued one. We were also one of the first infantry units to use the M27 in combat.

Later on I also carried M4 with M203 as well as an M9.

USAF 1980-84. M16 and a wrench, spent far more time with the wrench. ;)

Aside from basic training and a few short TDY's, spent my entire enlistment in the Minuteman missile fields at Malmstrom AFB.

Drafted in 1964 and trained with the 27th Field Artillery (Trailered 105 Howitzer fire control) at Ft. Lewis, WA. Shipped to Korea Dec. 1964 on the USS Gen J.G. Breckenridge (While the first troops were shipped to Viet Nam) to be reassigned as a finance clerk until they realized I had a military drivers license.

U.S. Army, 7th Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea 1965.
1911A1 while driver for Finance Officer who liked to go fishing in the friggin’ DMZ sandwiched between Gook and U.S. gun placements.
M-14 and/or 1911 when transporting payday currency in a duce and a half from Seoul.

Wow, so many over the years...

M-16A1/A2
M203
CAR 15
M-4
M21 Couldn't shoot an M-24 worth a damn for some reason.
AKM
AKMS Never warmed up to our '74s
1911
P35
M-9
Sig 226
MP-5/k/SD and for a very short test trip, MP10 what a piece!
AR10 The "real deal" outa (IIRC) Portugal in Lebanon
A whole swath of U.S riot/trench guns

Others to be sure but they're slipping from memory as time goes by. One of the great advantages of a career in Special Forces is the arms room and mission flexibilities if you can justify your imagination properly in words.
