VICTORY AT LAST!!!

Today the struggle of thousands of German shooters and their associations - first and foremost the Bund Deutscher Sportschützen (BDS) - to counter the efforts of a multitude of German authorities and politicians to ban IPSC, was rewarded with the official recognition of IPSC as a legitimate sport by the German government.

From 10/01/2004 all kinds of IPSC disciplines (handgun, rifle and shotgun) are absolutely legal in Germany.

AWESOME MAN! I'll tell my wife, she has a lot of friends over there.

Now will this "official recognition of IPSC as a legitimate sport" mean that HK sales will skyrocket and the prices will come down:D

None of these people are socialists. Get over it.

Rock on!

Congrats to all of our compatriots across the pond on their victory!

Actually, wrong.

Hitler was a National Socialist.
Stalin was a Communist.
And Clinton...
Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said?

Ummm, here's a little history lesson for you. The full name of the Nazi party, translated into English is National Socialist German Workers' Party. Notice the Socialist part? Now, Hitler didn't create the party (Anton Drexler did.), but you can sure bet he could have easily changed the name if he decided one day that he wasn't really a socialist and the party name was a tad misleading.

My German is really rusty, but the German initials of the party were NSDAP. If you really want to learn just how much of a Socialist Hitler was, read Mein Kampf (My Struggle). Granted, the English translation isn't great, but from what I understand, Hitler wasn't the best author, even in German. But, what do you expect from a guy who ignored most of his school studies to concentrate most of his efforts on his miserably poor art skills.

Thank y'all for the interest and sympathy for our victory here in Germany! :) :) :)

It was an important battle we've won but the war against RKBA continues.

@ crewchief: Ich lebe in einem Dorf in der Nähe von Schweinfurt.

@ G36-UK: WE're outnumbered here in Germany too. But we succeeded in making ourselves heard loud and clear to the bunch of buffoons which is called "German Government". In the weeks after the school massacre in Erfurt, when every backbencher in the Bundestag and the whole media bunch demanded the ban of all high-powered firearms in Germany, our pols made a truly shocking experience. The lowly citizens with legal firearms in their posession refused to give up all hope and quietly turn in all weapons. NO, they wrote many thousands of letters, e-mails, pestered them on the telephone and raised six kinds of ruckus. That had never happened before of that scale. Because 2002 was an election year for the Bundestag, BOTH sides (the SPD socialists AND the CDU/CSU "conservatives") feared defeat when cracking down on the German shooters. The result: No guns were banned, even our version of the Assault Weapons Ban was repealed. Alas, the minimum age for buying high-powered firearms was raised from 18 to 21 and a compulsory psychological examination of young shooters under the age of 25 was enacted. THAT we could not stop. :(

Sehr gut!

but I live near Frankenmuth

Hahahaha! Last time I was at the Bavarian Inn, the waitress didn't speak German.

Stalin = Communism: Public ownership and control of everything
Hitler = Fascism: Dictatorship control, state ownership
Clinton = Capitalist: already covered

Dear Krautgunner...

... I am a "native" of Frankonia area (in Northern Bavaria) and a BDS member as well. Judging from the conversations I had in with the representatives of BDS shooting association in the past it was a long & tough fight indeed.

I have heard about the good news on last Friday and I am very relieved and happy that everything has worked out well finally.

I don't participate in IPSC anymore (lack of interest). Instead I concentrate on BDS' 25 meter "bullseye" competition. But when it comes to gun ownership we are all sitting in the same boat. Certainly, there are shooters and shooting associations around which don't seem to care as long as "their" disciplines and the guns they use are accepted by the government/authorities. That's disturbing indeed and we must do everything to get together. Like the Americans say "We must hang together or hang separately".

You've mentioned that after the terrifying school shooting in Erfurt the legitimate gun owners wrote a lot of letters, e-mails and so on. That's right. Lord knows I did my share as well. Back then, I couldn't believe the downright stupidity I've heard and read about in the news. Fortunately, our efforts were successful to "stem the tide" of the most idiotic proposals to restrict our already tough gun laws even further (naively thinking that such massacres could be avoided in the future - what a joke! :banghead: ). As usual, our restrictive gun law does nothing to stop violent gun crime! :cuss:

Still, it's a major victory and the German shooters should be happy about that. :)

All the best.
