Hello all,

New to this forum - just got an 1858 Remmie ( a Pietta ) at the Central Florida gun show this weekend. Looking forward to shooting it and showing it off in relation to my work as a historic tour guide here in Saint Augustine ( I do a Civil War impression, largely for 4th graders ). I was wondering if anyone knows if a video, DVD, whatever, exists that presents the disassembly technique for the 1858. Also, I got it as part of a "starter package" from Cabelas - and it looks like this package has a few years on it ( the gun does appear to be unfired ). Is there a way to tell how old this gun might be from a serial number or other markings?
Thanks - Matt

Welcome to The High Road... :)

I'm delighted with everything I read in your opening post, especially your work with 4th grade children. You will find out shortly that the Black Powder sub-forum is filled with knowledgeable folks that will do everything in their power to help. This will be a short post because I am pressed for time, but you can expect a lot more later.

For the time being you will find detailed instructions with illustrations explaining how to disassemble your revolver here:

Don't worry too much about the age of your starter package from Cabelas. While they sell scads of revolvers relatively few buy the accessories because they either are set up to go already, or they don't plan to shoot their new purchase, but rather keep it as a collectable.

More later. ;)

Thanks!

Thanks for the info!

I wasn't too overly concerned about the age of the pistol - I was just curious. Thanks for the link on the disassembly instructions - I'm going to print that out and keep it nearby ( and I'll get some good gunsmithing screwdrivers soon ).
