So I was finally able to get my hands on some n320 and am going to load up some 230gr fmj zero bullets for my 45acp and was wondering if anyone had a load they loved for it. I will of course be checking all my books for start and max loads but figured some of you might have something that would work well in a 5 inch 1911.

Thanks

Who has a favorite load? Who can afford to shoot this stuff? :)

J/K.

I don't know if you have this (might even have been you I got it from in another thread), but on page 59 there's load data for VV powder w/ .45s. Nothing for zero bullets, but there's info on FMJ RN Hornady, from which you might be able to extrapolate downward.

And I'm waiting for you to figure out how this does, so I can buy a pound of N320 and experiment for myself. :)

I have heard that I shouldn't even try, because then I wont want to shoot anything else. It is supposed to be super clean as well, meter great, and very consistent.

Sound like something I should stay away from. :)

per vihtavuori manual 4th edit.

230grain FMJ-RN Hornady

N320

4.9 grains 784fps to 5.2 grains (max) 850fps

Personally I use 5 grains of N320/230grain fmj and it works very well in my hk45

Hope that helps

I copied the following from Wilson Combat's site in regard to their accuracy guarantee; at he bottom it lists the handloads with N-320. I'm not saying these are what VV would recommend but it's what Wilson says at http://www.wilsoncombat.com/faq_handgun.htm

Do you have an accuracy guarantee?
Yes, Wilson Combat rifles and pistols have accuracy guarantees. Depending on the model of pistol the guarantee is 1 inch or 1.5 inches at 25 yards. Rifles feature a 1 MOA guarantee at 100 yards or 1.5 MOA guarantee at 100 yards, depending on the model. You can see which firearm models feature what guarantee by viewing the product web pages.

Please Note: The accuracy guarantee is valid only with the ammunition and stipulations listed below:

Handguns:
1 inch or 1.5 inch accuracy guarantees are based on the pistol's ability to place 5 consecutive shots (center to center) into the guaranteed group size from a distance of 25 yards when fired from a Ransom machine rest by at least one of the following ammunition types:

Federal Classic 45D 230 gr. JHP
Federal Hydra-Shok 230 gr. JHP
Hornady 200gr. XTP
Black Hills 230 gr. XTP
Winchester SXT 230 gr. JHP

Handloads:

6.4 gr. VihtaVuori N320, Nosler 185gr JHP
6.3 gr. VihtaVuori N320, Hornady 200 gr. XTP

pg. 261 of 4th edit VV manual gives

a range for N320, with a 185grain Nosler HP of between 5.2 grains(817fps) and 5.9 grains (919fps)

6.4 gr. VihtaVuori N320, Nosler 185gr JHP (this is half a grain over the max load)

a range for N320, with a 200 grain Hornady FMJ-CT of 5.0 grains(855fps) to 5.4 grains (928fps)

6.3 gr. VihtaVuori N320, Hornady 200 gr. XTP ( 0.9 grains over max)

I'd go with the powder manufacturer over the firearm manufacturer every day of the week.

xmanpike I shoot 5 grains as I get great accuracy at 25 metres and my brass lasts forever. Hope you find whatever works best in your pistol.
