Hey,
I know this may sound stupid but I have an age question about Virginia's firearm laws. What is the state age to purchase pistols? According to The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide, the age is 21. While searching online, I came across the Bradey Campaign's website that said in Virginia the age for pistols was 18? Does anyone know which age is correct? Im sure it doesnt effect the age, but do historic guns, say over 50 years old, have different laws.
Thanks

Federal law trumps state law, and the age for buying a pistol according to federal law is 21. Unless it is a muzzleloader or a gun born before 1899, you must go through all the hoops.

AHHHH...I see where you made your mistake. You visited the Brady site and made the sad mistake of assuming that they actually know anything. Well they don't, all they can do is emote. Accuracy of data is irrelevant. What counts is the sensationalism of data. Can it be used to scare people into giving them the effect they seek. Learn from this experience, never trust or believe anything read on an anti 2A website.

You are right and wrong. In Virginia if you purchase from a licensed dealer you must be 21. If you purchase from a private person (not a licensed dealer) you can be 18. Also your parents can give you a handgun as a gift.

18 if buying from an unlicensed seller (private sale).

21 if buying from a federally licensed dealer.

The previous two are correct. The first two to reply don't seem to know the 68 GCA very well as it applies to licensed dealers etc only (they still kinda respected the commerce clause at that time, just not the second amendment, unlike now where they generally don't respect anything).
