Visiting Baton Rouge

Friend of mine in Canada is coming down to BR in Nov on a training seminar. When he told me that, I just laughed and asked "Why don't they just send ya to Fallujah? You'd probably be safer."

I know crime has sucked bigtime in Houston-Galveston area since Katrina . Anybody from BR can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the same situation there? Any places to avoid or is the entire city basically a shooting gallery?

We have 1-3 people shot a day (or every second day) here in the Houston area.and CHL applications have spiked by about 30% as a result. I'll be going to visit him when my friend comes down in Nov (BR is pretty close) but I'm SURE going to be carrying! Luckily LA-TX have CHL reciprocity.

By the way, anybody know of any good pistol/rifle ranges in the BR area? Might as well introduce my Canadian friend to the evil American gun culture while he's down here!

I am originally from the Baton Rouge area (Walker). I recently deceided to try to move back. Bad idea, I'm stayin' in Florida. I now live in the BR, LA area and work in New Orleans and go home on weekends. Temporary situation, I hope.

Anyway, the crime is a lot worse but not at the "war zone" level...yet. Crime is usually between BRLA and NOLA gangs. Lots of BIG gang fights in schools. Police have to come in and seperate them with pepper spray. I guessing the crime is on par with Houston. Traffic is pretty bad.

For gun entertainment, go to Jim's on Seigon Lane. It's the nicest/coolest gun shop I have ever been in. Down the road is an indoor range. I think you can rent class III stuff there. There are no outdoor ranges within an hour. For hunting go to Wade's Outfitters on Perkins Rd. PM me for more info.

lets put it this way, here in Houston it is getting near war zone standards, and yet the media has given us news about BR, so it is def getting bad over theire.
