I'm considering purchasing a Volquartsen .22 pistol. I don't have any experience with their pistols, just parts, and I'm pretty familiar with the Ruger Mark platform.

All of the VQ pistols look nice, what's the word from owners?

Not too much any can say that you probably already do not know. Volquartsen has been producing custom accessories and marts for target shooters of Ruger Mark 1-3 handguns for years as well as 10-22 rifles.

Their pistols are simply customized Ruger MK3's using their parts. They make nice accessories and if you want all they provide on one of their handguns it may be a better deal than buying a new one and adding the parts piece by piece. On the other hand if you already own a Ruger MK3 it may be better to incrementally add their custom parts to see if you like the changes.

I've really liked the Volquartsen trigger on my 10-22 and have shot friends MK3's with their triggers and target grips which make the pistol a nice target piece.

I have a VQ Scorpion which combines the VQ upper designed for the Ruger Mark II series with their competition bolt and their version of the .22/45 lower. I am really happy with the groups and use it for indoor winter bullseye. The price is kinda high, but the gun does group.

I also have a VQ competition bolt in a franken-Ruger I built from a VQ lower and a Tactical Solutions threaded upper. Not as tight as the Scorpion but an awesome field pistol. It replaced my venerable 2nd generation Colt Woodsman in that role. Not any more accurate than the Colt, but a lighter and easier to replace.

I have all Volquartsen innards in a MK III 4.5" Hunter. Flawless performance and very, very nice trigger. I saw no need to purchase a VQ MK III model over my current setup.

My 22/45 Target is a different story. It has a all Volquartsen frame. The gun runs about $300-$350 and the VQ frame ran me around $425, so I may have about $750 total in the gun. The all alloy VQ frame really added to the overall feel of the 22/45.

I doubt you will get much better results with a VQ barrel over the stock Ruger target model.
