Well, I finally got to shoot my Volquartsen THM CF Barrel with the 32 hole compensator. Here's a summary of my experiences. I also added the Volq cantilever barrel mount with Weaver 4X4 rings to replace my receiver mounted Leupold base and rings. The THM barrel, with a 16" barrel and about 2" of compensator for a total length of about 18" is considerably lighter than my original Green Mountain 18" SS barrel. The THM barrel was a tight fit in my receiver. I had to tap the receiver to get the barrel to seat properly. After that I just screwed on the cantilever mount, mounted the rings, and added the scope. I went out to shoot today. After I cleaned the barrel, I shot a couple of groups. I was worried at first as the groups were larger than what I was getting with my Green Mountain 18" SS fluted barrel, but I remembered that some barrels shoot better after fouling. As I shot it more, the groups tightened up. I had a couple of FTFs which I believe were due to the chamber being so tight. Out of 500 rnds, I may have had 5 or 6 FTFs. I noticed that my groups were tighter than what I was getting with the GM barrel. The compensator did seem to make the rifle a bit louder than the GM barrel. I did all my shooting from the bench. I'll be trying offhand later, but I wanted to see what the barrel was capable of. All shooting was done at 50yds with Winchester Dynapoints ($12.99 for 500 at Kmart). All the modifications were done by myself (if you can uses a screwdriver, you can do all the mods yourself). If you like to tinker and want to try to squeeze every bit of accuracy out of a 10/22 I believe the Volq THM barrels are one of the best ones out there.
