im currently looking at either the vortex viper hs lr in 4-16x50mm and the 4-16x44 version, cameraland has the 50mm for 499.99 and the 44mm for 399.99, just wondering if it is worth it for the extra 6mm of objective. also this will be on a remington 700 sps varmint in .243. i would like to keep the scope cost under 500 if i can, and around the 4-16x range. can go to $600 if needed. i think i want a 30mm tube also.

extra size will theoretically offer a little more field of view, and a little more light gathering ability. It will for sure add more weight, require the scope to be mounted higher, and cost more. I would go with the cheaper one for sure.

These 2 scopes have the same field of view.
The 50mm will provide an advantage in dim light at magnifications over 6 or 8X.
50 to 44 doesn't sound like much difference, but the difference in objective lens area is almost the same as the total area of a 24mm objective.

im gonna get the 4-16x44mm vplex from my LGS, 489.99. possibly a monarch 3 in 4-16x50 bdc, how does it compare to the vortex scope?
