Looking at the Vortex Viper PST FFP 4-16x50 or one of the two new Sightron scopes for 2011: SIII 3.5-10x44 LR MDCM or SIII 3.5-10x44 LR IRMOA.

I'll be using it for hunting and long range targets on a Savage 10 PC in .308.

Which would you go with and why?

I've never tried a Vortex. I have a half-dozen Sightron SII's and think very, VERY well of them. Between the two, I would consider the Sightron to be the clear favorite based upon past performance.

I would vote Vortex. Their warranty is GREAT. I had one of their more economical spatting scopes. It was delivered with problems - probably from shipping. They sent me a call tag, they paid the shipping back, while my return was in-route they had already UPGRADED me to the next level model and shipped it (w/ an upgraded tripod as well). They aim to please - and their optics are good (not as good as my S&B or my NF, but good).

I also see Bushnell 4200 Elite Tactical 3-12x44 mil/mil and illum reticle on closeout. Would that be a good alternative?

I don't get people who throw in another option that the OP didn't ask for.

That being said...I am a huge fan of Vortex...their CS is excellent. I have a PST on order...Vortex offers a lot of wanted features into a reasonable price point.

I know that the Sightron III are nice optics as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with either company. I have been looking at the Sightron III for my 338LM. If you need more elevation and windage, I believe that the Sightron IIIs offer more compared to the PST. At least the SIII model that I compared to the Vortex PST. SIII was 150 MOA and the PST was I believe 65 MOA.

Aubie515,

I am the OP and was the one that threw out another option. So, I'm entitled! ;-)
