Vortex Optics - Viper PST

I know these scopes are fairly new to the market, and were recently re-released over some fairly minor complaints with turret tightness. Beyond that, I've never had the chance to use one, and I've only briefly met one person who has actually picked one up.

Have any of you used the Vortex Viper PST scopes?

If so,

How's the glass?

Is it repeatable to the level that you'd expect out of a high-end scope like a Nightforce, etc?

Is the tracking reliable and accurate?

I'm starting to shop for an optic upgrade on my .308, and this new scope keeps floating around in my thoughts. It sounds almost too good to be true for the price, which is a bit of a concern for me (don't want to buy one, only to be looking for another upgrade in the near future).

On the other hand, I hear that Vortex has a great customer service department, and that they really strive to make a good product. But, with that said, options like Nightforce, US Optics, etc, have been around a lot longer, and have clearly stood the test of time (sadly, their price tags are reflective of that fact).

I'd love to hear feedback from anyone who has used the Viper PST scopes!

They are heavily back ordered. Relatively few of the improved versions are actually in users hands.

That said, the improved ones have gotten very positive write ups. And, from what I have read are worth the wait. I have the 4-16 X 50 mil/mil FFP version on order for about 2 months now. My SWAG is about a 3 to 4 month wait from date of order.

I have a PST 2.5-10x44 EBR-1 MRAD. It is everything it was advertised to be, and much more. I have used Leupold Mark4 LR/Ts, and this scope is optically better. The matching reticle/turret system is also a huge plus, especially for those of us that are die hard mil/mil users. The scope is just phenomenal. The optical clarity, resolution, light transmission and color fidelity are all excellent. The adjustments are accurate, and it passes the box test easily. My only complaint is that the eyebox gets a little picky and small at the top end of the magnification spectrum. It's nothing that's debilitating, and given that this scope is only $599 and is eating the breakfast off Leupold's plate from their $1279 LR/T, I'm more than happy to have that small arbitrary quirk.

I have heard that the 1-4x and 6-24x models are also just as stellar and the reviews have been extremely positive. The 4-16x50 model has experienced some controversy for some reason over on SnipersHide. There is some contention that the 4-16x models are losing some optical quality at the top end of the magnification range, much more so than the other models. However, the reviews have still said that the scopes are well worth their weight in gold and it is not a major issue.
If you want an alternative, the Weaver Tactical 1-5x and the 3-15x50 FFP mil/mil EMDR are excellent quality and on the same level for value and high optical quality and capability.

The wait for the PSTs isn't going to be too bad come June. There is a massive shipment enroute that Vortex said is supposed to fill a majority of the backorders. They hope to be caught up within the next couple months. I would suspect that they'll be fully available no later than the end of July or early August. If you can't or won't wait that long, the Weaver Tactical is getting excellent reviews and they're available now. The glass is supposedly a titch better too.
