Hi guys new here. I deer hunt upstate NY, every shot is 25yrds or 300 no in between it seems. Looking to buy a new double duty rifle in 6.5 creed for hunting and good accuracy at the range. I currently have a Remington 700 with the magpul hunter stock (thin profile barrel SPS rifle) and a decent load built up for it but I just want more accuracy.

My range goes out to 600 yards and I’d like to be able to at least hit that as they do some matches at the range but want a rifle I can still hunt deer with.

Basically I’m looking for a hunting rifle that I can be proficient up to 600yds with in the 1k ballpark. The new Springfield Armory waypoint that just came out has really caught my eye and with a discount is in my ballpark. I’ve also been looking at the Bergera wilderness ridge rifle. Any thoughts on either of these? I know the SA rifle hasn’t been out long at all. If not does anyone have any other recommendations of a rifle like this?

Tikka.

If you lean more toward hunting the T3 will weigh around 7.5 lbs scoped. It is still accurate enough for what you want to do.

If you lean more toward precision shooting the CRT. Unless you go crazy heavy on the scope weight will be under 9 lbs. That is a little steadier for precision work, but not unreasonably heavy for hunting.

Both are available in SS or blue finish. Blue will save you $100-$150.

Will check those out, have always heard great things about them.

So I'm curious: what kind of accuracy do you get from the Remington? I like Remington 700s, but am not a fan of the Magpul furniture. If your current rifle is already "hunting accurate," say 2 MOA as is, I'd be tempted to replace the stock with an HS Precision or Grayboe (pretty easy to come by second hand on the gun boards), bed the action, maybe replace the stock trigger with a Timney or TriggerTech. In my experience, Remington 700s can be plenty accurate.

However, if you are set on a new rifle, Tikkas are good, but I'd probably give the nod to a Bergara. I've owned both; still own a Bergara.

I bought a Bergara HMR Wilderness in 6.5 CM and it is plenty accurate for range work, but I’d call it a tad heavy for hunting unless you are sitting in a shooting house a short walk from the truck.

I'm getting about 1.5 moa at 100 yards. I seem to be accuracy obsessed these days. I did have a Tikka t3 lite when i was younger in 7mm mag (used) and the gun would NOT shoot, terrible groups. But again everyone rants and raves over them so I must've got a bad one.

Has anyone seen the new SA rifle? I'm curious of impressions of it.

I’ve got a Bergara Premier Approach rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. It’s the older model with AICS magazines. I also have a Sako A7 in 6.5 CM. Sako owns Tikka and the barrels are the same in both brands. Velocities for the same loads probably average close to 100 fps higher out of the Bergara, at least last time I checked. Barrels are both 24” so it’s not length related. The Bergara barrel is simply faster. When I ran the test the Sako had considerably more shots down the barrel, which I thought would have been an advantage. Who knows.

Considering accuracy I’d say it’s a tie. Both shoot sub-MOA with multiple loads. The Sako, however, seems to be easier to load for. I can quickly come up with a good load. OTOH the Bergara can be finicky and sometimes it takes a while to arrive at a suitable load.

I’ve collected Tikkas for years and have a handful. Every Tikka I have is accurate and I’ve never had a problem with any. Mine are all the older M595 & 695. The new T3X seems to be a fantastic rifle. I’ve shot a friend’s several times and was very impressed. Aftermarket support for their new rifles gets better every year.

The Bergara is my latest rifle. It’s the Premier Series which has some differences from the Wilderness Series you’re considering so it’s a little different rifle. I like the Remington 700 compatibility and the Triggertech trigger is second to none. It’s simply amazing.

You won’t go wrong with either rifle. I’d go with whichever fits you better or if it’s tie, I’d choose the one you think looks the best.
