I'd like to obtain factory power (830-850 fps) from 45 ACP reloads with plated 230 RN bullets. Usually I adopt an OAL from 1.265 to 1.270.

Can you kindly suggest me some loads with VV N340 powder?

Thanks to all,
MAXM

Hi

If you go to the Vihtavuori web site there is data for using N340 in .45ACP.

http://www.vihtavuori.fi click on reloading then follow the links to the reloading data in PDF format.

There must be Finnish reloaders using this powder for .45 as Vihtavuori is the local product and it's basically all we can get here.

I load .40 and 9mm myself so unfortunately can't offer any more practical help :(

All the best

N340

I use N340 for .45ACP. My favorite load is: 6.3 gr behind a Montana Gold 230 gr. FMJ with an OAL of 1.250. This gives me about 815 fps with SD's of 15-18. This has proven to be an accurate, clean load to shoot. I've bumped it up to 6.4 gr for about 830-850 fps which also gives good accuracy.

I use N340 for several big bore handguns, .40 S&W, 45ACP, 45 Colt, 44 Special and 44 mag. Max load for 230 gr jacketed 45ACP is 6.5 gr N340. Usual load for 230 gr is 6.3 gr and for 185gr jacketed I use 6.5 gr. The company has a free loading book, very abreviated from their big book, but has the above loads. Speer 13 also shows N340 and N350 loads in those calibers. I generally use N340 for short barrel guns and N350 for the carbines (44 mag Marlin with 240 gr bullets.)

Very consistent, meters well through the Dillon 550B and pretty clean.

Cronographed yesterday, with my Colt 5" 45 ACP, 6.3 grains of N340, WW WLP primers, Fiocchi cases, .451 230 (really 225) grain plated RN bullets. Obtained 847 fps, with very low SD. OAL 1.266-1.268, FLCD die, crimp .471.

Thanks for all your replies,
MAXM
