Vz 2008

I bought one and haven't had any problems. I changed out the beaver bark for new polymer furniture. It's a light weight nice rifle. My only issue is that it doesn't have a chrome lined barrel, but for the price it's a good deal.

just got mine yesterday great deal only 399 5 new mags new mag pouch new bayonet bore is as nice as i have ever seen shoot tommorow

The vz2008 has a wide sear that engages both the semi and full auto side of the trigger spring. The trigger pull becomes pretty darned nice if you break off the auto side (the right if memory serves me right). Some people have had issues with the Centruy parts but I have not.

I got my VZ2008 the other day to compliment my SA VZ58 from CZUSA. I had actually read up on the assorted differences, and I was still all "what the...:barf:" when I pulled the trigger the first time. The CAI model has a narrow trigger, which makes the excessive trigger weight even worse. Probably an 8-10lb pull on mine, and for no reason whatsoever. I guess I'd say it's revolver-like, though, in that it is heavy but smooth w/ no stacking up to the break, but being striker-fired, it's a somewhat indeterminate break with lots of over travel.

-Pretty lame looking bore; about 200grit surface finish :scrutiny:. We'll see...
-Very stiff everything; parking over all moving parts means some wear-in is needed, of course
-Now that I'm used to the glossy grey of the VZ (which at first I thought was an odd choice for a military rifle), the matte black 'tactical' park is a bit off putting. Seems to come off on the hands a bit, too, at least fresh from the box
-Front sight is imperceptibly canted; whatever
-Receiver machine work looks very well done, certainly no worse from the SA VZ58 by a cursory glance
-CAI does their safety backwards, which is more awkward (I have to use the index finger rather than the thumb)
-Bolt carrier is gritty, but unencumbered by the parkerization; it'll wear in
-Internal parts actually look to be in newer shape than my 'nicer' build, with fewer rounded corners and burnish marks. I'm certain there is no functional difference
-The five mags I got are in decent condition, all appear functional and lock in snugly. The bayonet, frog, and mag pouch have seen much better days. The bayonet doesn't come close to sliding on to the lug; it's like .02" undersized, but it's not like I'm missing much :p
-I haven't test fired yet, but if the gas port lines up with the gas block, there is no reason I can see that this rifle wouldn't perform flawlessly

I'm glad that most of you are happy with the VZ2008

I decided to go with a couple of AK's for now. I just picked up a Serbian N-PAP. It looks great. Waaay nicer wood than any AK I have seen. The trigger is also way better than most. It is regulated for point of aim at 100 yards which is great. It came with a used metal mag and a Tapco and, I had purchased 5 new Korean mags, all worked flawlessly and fit snugly with no wobble.:) I may still get a VZ2008 in a while.

The stock's not a big deal so much as the rifle is just built for smaller people; it's practically a bantam. The wire folder isn't bad at all on my D-Technik, because it doesn't have slant brake pushing the barrel down with every shot like the VZ2008. You have to remember, the VZ is both shorter and lighter than the AK, with balance point further back from the muzzle. Firing the same round as an AK, with the same brake, you can see how the stock will more violently punch upward into your cheek when fired. Remove the brake and it's tons better (and still legal due to the VZ2008's +16" barrel)

I plan on welding a 1" extension onto my stock for the simple purpose of allowing it to fold closed over the modified RPK drum I have for it . Should make the length of pull a bit more rifle-like, too. As it is currently, the VZ almost feels like a PDW as far as how close in and scrunched up you shoot it.

This new VZ is gonna be my test bed for crazy ideas, ranging from a tubular front handguard (inspired by a VSS Vintorez clone someone is building with one) that can possibly be suppressed, to a bolt-on belt fed conversion using RPD links. I still have a parts kit; that'll probably be built out into a 308 if I can find a way to make a slightly beefier locking piece.

Odd, the trigger is fine on mine. Could be the luck of the draw. Or it could be, as a long time revolver shooter, I just don't notice the trigger.
It's actually a very nice trigger for a military arm--just very heavy. Mike

I just got mine from psa, still had the century warranty so it seems like their stock is pretty fresh. The wire stock isn't very comfy but you can still get a good cheek weld. The light weight and handyness makes it feel more like a m1 carbine or pdw but shooting a cartridge with some oomph. I suppose the trigger is heavy for a rifle, but it's smooth and better than milsurp bolt actions. It was pleasent to shoot offhand, better than an sks I tried and muzzle comes back on target fast. I have no regrets.

I've been developing a little itch for a VZ and decided to drop by PSA's Fernandina store yesterday to take a look at the VZ2008s they have priced for $399. I had no intention to buy yesterday, but of course one had to come home with me.

The gun looks pretty much flawless, and the receiver machining is nicer looking than any milled AK I've ever seen. It came with a brand new sling, brand new bayonet and sheath, brand new cleaning kit, and one brand new loose mag. The mag pouch that came with it contains 4 additional used mags. Two are in very good condition, and two have a good bit of paint wear, and some little dents here and there, but are quite functional. The pouch itself (signed by Paska, whoever he is ) was the roughest item - quite dry and a bit moldy. Some leather conditioner brought it back to functionality.

I was able to put a few mags through it today. I would have run more if not for the heat/humidity outside today. I couldn't keep the sweat off my eye protection enough to see, so I packed it up after a short session. Reliability was 100% with the Red Army Standard I had on hand.

I was surprised with how soft shooting the rifle is. I expected a little punch due the the light weight and small steel buttplate of the folder, but felt recoil is quite a bit less than any 7.62x39 AK I've fired. Recoil is also pretty much straight back. Everyone says the wire folder needs paracord to battle cheek slap, but I felt none at all. All-in-all, I'm very impressed.

Folks always say they remember the days when SKSs were $89 and MAK90s were $179, and they wish they had gotten one.

One day we'll be talking about how we remember the days when VZ2008s were $399.

Just go get one.

That was my thinking exactly. Everywhere else is Sold out. Im too young to have had that chance with other guns. Why buy a $350 sks when you can get this?

I fired 60 rounds through mine today. Nice gun. Can't say whether it's better than an AK the 399 price certainly was. Over all F&F is very good. The balance and weight make it feel nimble compared to a WASR and those aluminum mags are the icing not the cake so to speak. It's so much handier than an AK.

I like the wire stock but admittedly it does seem shorter than the wire Romanian on my WASR. It's not. Both have an LOP of 12 3/4". Yet when shouldering the VZ the receiver tends to crowd your cheek. The release button for the stock was a challenge to engage at first. It has loosened up since. The VZ is only 1/2" shorter than the WASR overall.

At first I thought the VZ barrel must be thinner due to the weight difference but they are the same diameter. The weight appears to be in the gas system and bolt/ location of the AK. The VZ's balance is excellent.

The VZ trigger is heavier and has a longer pull than I'm use to on a rifle. It has a similar feel to a Khar pistol. Needless to say its smooth. Accurate hits are easy to make.

You don't have to keep the slant break 68F080D5-1368-4DEC-B519-D5E6EC726C64_zpstqzehot1.gif

I put an AK 47 but pad on mine & wrapped the folding stock with para cord these 2 low cost mods seem to have made it more enjoyable & comfortable to shoot.

Anyone experience the infamous "VZ58 gremlin" on the recent VZ2008s? A few years back, everyone feels the tab mod is a must on semi-auto VZs, but wonder if they fix it on the recent VZs.

I have not experienced the Gremlin at all and have not heard any recent claim of the Gremlin in these guns..

The recent VZ2008's do not have the "gremlin" but, there are some new/old stock that might. Some of these have been sold recently. I have been doing some homework on this. You can tell the difference by where the writing is on the outside of the receiver. If you have anything other that the F and S for the selector on the right side you have the older version. You can also open the rifle and look at the disconnector. If it is round it is the old style, if it is angle cut, you have the new.

Opinions differ of if the tab is still needed. Some refuse to let go I guess and accept that engineers can update things.

There are lots of posts regarding the gremlin, most first-hand accounts date back a couple of years. You will not find any new reports of trigger-based stoppages since the change has been done except for some "buddy told me, I read online, I heard about" so read into that what you will.

I have one of the new ones, runs like a champ! so many rounds I lost count, no stoppages what so ever.
