Hi. I noticed a couple NIB (or close to) VZ2008's in my area for sale cheaper than you can buy retail. Looks like the same product they sell at Classic Arms. It makes me wonder why the owners want to sell them already. Is there something not to like about this product? Is the Century Version not a keeper?

VZ eez good. Eez veezeey good.

They're closing out the CAI VZs, is all

The gun is not an AK, and the mags are proprietary, so that's the biggest knock to the rifle. I was not into arms when Century had a crew of angry, drunk primates making their guns, so I can't say what they were like a number of years ago.

But... The fit and overall finish is really good on the two I've seen the last couple weeks. That being said, one of them had canted sights and the ftf seller wouldn't budge on his price. If he dropped the price $80 bucks I would have bought it and had a smith fix the sights.

Instead, I bought through Atlantic Firearms which promises to do an eyeball inspection of the sights on the guns they sell. Mine came with decent sight as far as my eyes can tell. I will find out more as soon as I can get to the range.

The milling on the receiver, the coating, the quality of the sights all seem really good considering the cheap price.

My only complaint is the lack of a chrome lined barrel other then that mine has been great. I switched the beaver bark for polyomer & I'm very happy with it. I also added a small 3" section of rail & for a magpul afg. Now I'm waiting for my upper handguard rail from Bonesteel arms to attach an Aimpoint red dot.

Fixed it ;)

Mags are at least cheap and very well made/good condition, the latter of which is most certainly not always the case with original AK items. Also lightweight aluminum, which I don't think any of the AK mags are.

To be honest, I think the VZ is real close to reaching sustainable levels of interest in the aftermarket (just look how much more furniture is out there than even two years ago) and someone like Tapco (or dare I say Magpul?) will start making polymer mags, but that's just a hope at present. Still plenty of parts/mags out there for the taking, often at or below AK prices.

Exactly.

The VZ2008 comes with 5 mags, so that's a great start. And the vz.58 mags are lightweight, durable, very reliable, and still readily available. Hardly a knock against the rifle.

I have never heard any compaints. Upon handling many of them, they seem on par with similarly priced and even slightly higher priced AKs. Already owning some of the AK variety, the VZ is definitely on my short list.... if my opinion means anything to you.

Also don't be super worried about the CAI stamp on them. As best I can tell, the VZ's are likely the highest quality manufactured item Century has ever produced (hint: they don't actually do the producing for the VZ receivers --that's done by a subcontractor). Coupled with the originally high build quality (compared to mish-mash AK tolerances) this means the assembly that Century likely does itself is very consistent and reliable. The real problem with CAI is their 1 year warranty starts the day the gun is produced, not the day you buy it (so shelf life matters)

Keeping the sight base straight is obviously a skill they can't seem to figure out for some reason, but I believe this is fairly easy to correct on the rifle if it is beyond adjustment range in cant.

The other day, a couple of original beaver barf buttstocks (with hardware) popped up on Ebay for $70 shipped each! I grabbed one quick and the other went within 24 hours of the listing appearing.

I really wish boyds would make new stocks for these things... id love to see my vz5008 in pepper.
Does your vz5008 have an anti-matter powered particle disruptor beam? I'm just happy to know the long and storied Czech firearms industry will last another 30 Centuries :D

Maybe the sellers don't like the recoil, but take the slant brake off and it is a really pleasant shooter for how light and handy it is. The $399 package with 5 mags is super deal, better than any other 7.62x39 rifle at any price, but especially at this one. I got this brake and the recoil is straight back, no flip. http://www.cncwarrior.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=23263.
Does the VZ2008 need to be modified to take that, or can you just take off the original and swap this one for it? Wait, isn't the original pinned? Does this one screw on?

It s a deal out there. Beside s it was the VZ 58 that the late dictator Saddam Hussein used to assassinate his opponents back in the 60s. It had some history attached to it for those history buff.

The vz2008 differs in that it had a threaded barrel. I recommend cnc warrior because they will rethread the muzzle device to fit, as I have heard some owners report fitment issues, and it is different from the ak threading. Really the us barrel is the weak point of the vz2008
