I have been shooting a load in my 45acp that is 200gr SWC with 5.0 grains of 231. It seems kind of dirty. After about 100 rounds it feels slightly gummy. Is there a powder that is slow like that with similar metering ability and cleaner burning.

It's not the powder (W-231). It's the lube. W-231 is a rather clean burning powder at low or high powder charges. It is a fast burning powder and burns rather hot. That, in itself, could be the problem. Can you reduce the amount of lube you are using? Other then the messy grease...Aah...Lube you are using. Any other problems with W-231?

I bet you guys are right. Its prolly the lube. Never had an issue with 44 special. These are the first 45acp that I loaded. New bullet brand I am trying. I had used Lasercast in the past and didn't notice anything, but only in 44. I don't know what kind of lube these have other than it's blue. Bullets are from a local guy here casting his own and way cheaper than lasercast.

When in doubt if the powder is dirty or not load up some FMJ bullets and you will quickly find out if it's the powder or the lube on the lead bullets. I like the others have never had W231 run dirty in my reloads. I have had some very dirty lube on lead bullets though. (the red stuff is worse than the pine green or blue lube)
