WA AG seeks legislation to ban assault weapons

I saw this. The Attorney General repeated the same old Brady lies and half-truths then had the nerve to say he was pro Second Amendment.

The news reporter apparently had NO gun knowledge. She called a magazine a clip because she didn't know the difference.

The thing that bothered me the most was that at this time there has been NO RESPONSE from the NRA, Second Amendment Foundation, or the GOA.

The Attorney General is unopposed in the general election--a situation that should have NEVER been allowed to happen.

I really doubt this will get much traction. Crap like this is a just another reason the people east of the Cascades, the states of Idaho and Montana need to form our own state (those of you outside of Washington state wouldn't get the joke)

If you think others will solve your problems you're gonna have a bad day. While those organizations do a lot to defend our Rights, it's up to every day citizens to stand up and put in the time, effort and money to oppose things like this.

It's political posturing - it still takes the legislature to even introduce the bill. He's playing off the Massachusetts AG going full retard on reinterpreting the law. At least what he's asking is the legal manner to do it.

Expecting a complete nuanced and comprehensive retort from the NRA implies that any possible combination of state officer and potential ban talk be addressed beforehand. They have plenty of better things to do and issuing a press statement to the main stream media just so they can throw it in the nearest trash can isn't going to do much, is it?

Better to spend the time and effort when it will mean something during legislative debate over the bill - if it ever reaches the floor.

As for the lack of a Republican candidate, it reflects the lack of a working Party or any attempt to be a cohesive political force. Self inflicted.

Well, we ushered in this moron in the same election where we gained I-594, so shame on us -- we knew what he was while he was campaigning, and we had the chance to elect a fine man, a strong 2A supporter in his opponent, and we failed miserably. Yet another repercussion of our state's gun owners' hubris and neglecting to spend five minutes on our mail-in ballots.

A state's attorney general has ZERO business lobbying for new legislation. His office's job is simply to enforce existing laws and from time to time, offer forth opinions in clarifying those laws (required often here, given the general murkiness of some of this state's RCWs).

This news appears prompted by the AG's delayed reaction to the Mulkiteo school shooting, where a teen "who legally couldn't buy beer" bought an M-4 clone and killed three classmates. Possibly the only instance in the past fifty years where a so-called "assault rifle" was used in a homicide in this state, so yeah, this guy is simply pandering to the audience he thinks he has, and since he's done zilch during his term so far, just putting his name out there.

Oh yeah, because Texas is so notoriously anti-gun.

And comments like this don't fairly represent those of us West of the Cascades. It's primarily the two most populous counties on this side that elect the anti-gun folks. Aside from those counties, you'd be hard-pressed to find more pro-gun people than in many of the Western counties (ever been to Clallam or Mason counties, for example?).

Plus, one should probably take a look at the voter rates from the last general election -- the turnout in some of those "2A stalwart Eastern WA counties" was abysmal, even compared to the voter turnout in the Western counties.

A lot of us up here on the Olympic Peninsula cant stand our new Liberal Californian migratory overlords. Californians are moving up here in herds and overruling/outvoting our values.

AGs should stick to enforcing existing law as opposed to attempting to introduce new law. Leave that to the elected members of the legislator. We have a serious separation of powers issue in this country.

OK, residents from the peninsula can join us in our new state as long as you didn't start in California.

Not all Californians are stupid psycho idiots. Most people East of the coastline are conservative. For example, nearly all the counties north of Sacramento want to break off and form a new state based on the Constitution.

The WA AG is, hopefully, a citizen and can therefore ask the legislature to implement any laws he likes, as a citizen. The AG is also a political post that carries power to influence beyond that of a normal citizen.

Come on up! (Oregon) Let's get 'er done! We'll just cut out the Northern Willamette Valley.

Please contact Attorney General Bob Ferguson and voice your disappointment that he would call for legislation that would do nothing to prevent crime and only place undue burden on law-abiding gun owners. You can contact AG Ferguson by calling (360) 753-6200 or by emailing him here.

WE ALL HAVE TO RESPOND AND VOTE , IF WE CONTINUE THIS LESS THEN 30% VOTER TURN OUT WE ARE GOING TO LOOSE !!
JUST COMPLAINING IS NOT ENOUGH WRITE HIS OFFICE AND VOTE VOTE ALL OF
THOSE FOLKS OUT !!!
WE HAVE RIGHTS TOO LETS STAND UP AND VOTE FOR THEM !!
EVEN IF WE ALL JUST TOOK 10MIN AND CALLED OR SEND THAT EMAIL TO THE
ATTORNEY GENERAL AND I MEAN ALL OF US IT COULD HELP, WE CAN NOT JUST SAY NRA STAND UP FOR US WE MUST STAND UP AS WELL BY VOTING AND WRITING THEIR OFFICE AS THE NRA HAS REQUESTED WE DO !!!!

I just called the AG's number,
His secretary tried to transfer me to a number that had been set up SPECIFICALLY for people to call and complain about this.
I refused and had her write down a note to be delivered in person expressing my dissatisfaction,
It sounds like they have been inundated with negative feedback, to the point she didn't even bother asking what I was calling about.

Now write the e-mail http://www.atg.wa.gov/assault-weapons-proposal

This news brought my blood to a rolling boil.

The AG's job is to enforce existing laws and NOT to propose new ones or even worse in this case, blatantly attempting to amend the state constitution via legislation.

From the Washington State Constitution:

Article I, SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

Anyone- ANYONE- who seeks to impair the right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of the state, is an ENEMY OF A FREE STATE. PERIOD.

Seattle pretty much runs the state, and I can't imagine anywhere in America that has more dumb, anti-gun voters per capita than here in Seattle. We have our work cut out for us.

I really doubt this will get much traction.
Yeah, 'cause that whole 594 thing didn't "gain much traction", either. :uhoh:

What you really need to understand is that our opposition is relentless...in the the truest sense of the word.

They live by incremental change, and that is why they prevail in all areas of our lives.

Look it up, internalise it, understand it, believe it and work to counter-act it. Every day.
Because they are doing exactly that, and will never stop.

WA is pretty much CA with more rain.
That's fairly ridiculous.

Let's try this: "King County, WA, is pretty much CA with more rain."

There we go. Fixed. Now stop insulting the rest of our state.

Orienengnr, thanks. You are right on. Our people need to get out and actually vote.
