Why wait? If the news is out now, get proactive and get the word out before it even hits the floor. Make sure your representatives know that you're not reacting, but instead are always watching, ready to nip this crap in the bud.

No surprise. She's at it again.

She's at it again. I guess my wife is going to become a " keyboard widow " again. She hates the anti-gunners as much as I do. Mainly because I'm spending a lot of time e-mailing reps. Good thing she's a shooter!:D

quick everyone get your barrel shrouds ready!!!!

great i gotta spend the weekend writing emails now crap!!!! i wanna go fishing!!!

Is this that mor** from the great state of New York who doesn't know what a barrel shroud is but they should be banned????

Save us all.....She really needs to go away or better yet be voted out of office... she has been there way too long.

This bill has a snowball's chance in hell of going anywhere. McCarthy is either seriously deluded or is just trying to make a political point.

Shes making a political point. She said herself its a test for Gillibrand. There's now way shell jump on board. She'll be destroyed for such a massive flip flop and pandering to the gun control groups. But... I've been wrong before.

Well, do keep in mind that there is a "gun-control war" being waged between McCarthy and the recently-appointed NRA A-rated senator, Gillibrand.

Shortly after Gillibrand was appointed, McCarthy declared herself a candidate for Gillibrand's seat in next year's election--and Gillibrand had a change of heart.

Gillibrand co-authored Chuckie Schumer's AWB introduction to try to get bona fides with the downstate / NYC folks, I understand. see this article in today's Newsday.

"...Measure for measure, Gillibrand has matched McCarthy's support for gun control since being appointed in January, when she was bitterly attacked by McCarthy on guns.

"Most recently, Gillibrand signed on to the Senate version of the bill that McCarthy and Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) introduced Wednesday, which would require dealers at gun shows to conduct background checks."

Politicians....

Everyone that thinks a new AWB is "impossible" needs to wake up. Guys on here and hardcore 2A types care and will fight to stop the legislation but most of the populus, including many gun owners, doesn't give a flip and aren't going to care which way their Sen or Rep voted. All it takes is a "good" reason like Mexico, a mass shooting, gang violence, fear of "right wing extremists" etc. and we'll see a fast tracked AWB. I also never saw SCOTUS strike down the last ban and they won't strike a new one down either. By the way the POTUS will definitely sign it.

Looks like they're cutting right to the chase, it's not about schools or Mexico - it's about political hopscotch plain and simple.

I would write my representative, but short of pointing a gun at her, there is a 10000% chance, she will vote for this bill. My rep is Debbie Wasserman Shultz, amongst the most liberal members of the house. She is a lost cause.

This is hardly surprising, gun control is the platform McCarthy used to get elected her pet project. It's a shame she seems to continue to blame our guns for the loss of her husband and her son's injuries, but after 16 years, it is unlikely her opinion will change. As the article indicates, this seems to be little more than her testing her likely future opponent.

This will be a real test of Congress's taste for an assault weapon ban. If this is introduced, picks up the usual suspects as co-sponsors, and is shuffled off to a sub-committee again, it probably won't go anywhere. If it gains traction out of the gate, we may be in for a hell of a fight.

I suggest we cautiously (and vigilantly) watch this as political maneuvering on McCarthy's part, rather than whip up the "THE BAN IS COMING!!!!111" hysteria that seems so pervasive these days. Write your reps, watch the bill's progress, but let's not panic just yet.

Moderator Note: Guys, this could turn pretty political. Let's try to keep this focused on the activism and legislative awareness aspect rather than turning to political bickering.

Great. So now there's going to be panic buying of "shoulder things that go up" which will eventually trickle over to the UK. I'll not be caught out twice. I'm searching Midway UK right now so I can stock up on shoulder things that go up.

Too late I bought em all in November . they wont stay up .

as you can see, McCarthy calls out the NRA explicitly....she doesn't name drop GOA or the Jews for Preservation of Gun Rights or whatever that group is called. She name drops the NRA.

so support the NRA and sign up for a paid membership, forget about those other gun advocate groups. This just shows that GOA and whoever else still don't have the political capital to confront and defeat this type of legislation.
