Ordered one from J&G Sales with an extra mag. After doing some searches I found almost everyone wants $460 plus for the Star BM, J&G has them for $300 so with the extra mag ($20), shipping and the transfer fee it should come out to $360.
Unfortunately it's not C&R eligible......... Oh well.

Did they charge you state sales tax and a credit card fee, shipping?

I’ve been wanting one of these and you just made me go to J&G and order one too

dang you!!

Da debil made me do it........

;)

Originally I was looking at the Rock Island Armory Baby Rock in .380 but that meant I would the have to invest in an ammo I don't have. And have you seen the prices of .380 lately? Someone on another forum suggested the Star and for virtually the same price I decided on the Star as I have lots of 9mil ammo.

Good choice with the Star BM! I had a Star Model B, the full size version, and for years that was my go-to gun for teaching new shooters the ins and outs of a semi-auto pistol. Never had a problem with it and everyone loved shooting it.

I’ve had one for several years, bought from J&G, and it’s a sweet shooter. First one I got was average looking for surplus, but had to pry the mags out of it. They replaced it without question, with a considerably nicer specimen for my trouble. Put the wood grips on it, and she’s a beaut.

I have 2, nice soft shooting 9mm. I noticed when the hammer is down on an empty chamber the firing pin protrudes the breach face. I made a new firing pin to prevent this. so I can carry it in condition 2. It has been 100% reliable.

I'm putting the faux ivory grips on mine when I get it. Not the smooth ivory grips the textured ones.

Something like this?

I’ve also been looking at some alternative grips get for it. I think it will depend on the condition of the finish. If it’s in decent shape I’ll probably get something like these

If it’s got some wear and I decide this will be my beater gun, something like these

And I might even go as far as getting it refinished. This looked pretty cool

Closer to the third one down.

There are TWO firing pins for the Star BM. The later one is shorter than the early. They are available from Numrich Gun Parts and are cheap. Also replace your barrel link with one from EGW, much stronger. Also seek out the U tube vid on shimming the barrel stop to eliminate barrel link overstress.
Note that the BM, like a 1911 is safe to carry cocked & locked. The safety actually cams the hammer off the sear. In the event of a drop, the hammer must get past the safety, then the full cock notch and then the half cock. Better than the 1911, I think.

Thanks, I've already checked out all of those things. I like to research an older gun before I buy it, find out what it's quirks and possible weaknesses are. I already have the EGW barrel links, ordered them when I ordered the gun.

Looks like eBay has a potpourri of BM stuff and Lot of which seems to be at rip off prices! Especially the shipping.

I did ordered the firing pin from Numrich #715709. It was the same size as the original. I dont see an option of two different sizes. So I made my own.

Good decision to buy it while you can. I have 4 of them. Check out all the previous posts concerning the Star BM's like Velocette's post above. It can save you some money and or trouble.

I also put the EGW barrel link in mine, and test fired it. It ran fine with S&B HP rounds. I keep it in my tool chest in the garage, don't see me using it much for anything except "just in case". I found that the kydex paddle type holster that came with my SA 1911 operator works with the BM.

Did you use drill rod? I have a nice Grizzly lathe just sitting. Thought, I can just buy a HSS drill bit in the OD needed and turn down the end for the striker pin.
