Waiting on my "new" Star BM

Da debil made me do it........

;)

Originally I was looking at the Rock Island Armory Baby Rock in .380 but that meant I would the have to invest in an ammo I don't have. And have you seen the prices of .380 lately? Someone on another forum suggested the Star and for virtually the same price I decided on the Star as I have lots of 9mil ammo.

You'll thank yourself later. I have to grab a pair of cheaters when sorting brass if I take the .380 and 9mm to the range together. Almost makes the frustration not worth owning another caliber and the reason why I’ve never picked up a Mak.

Did you use drill rod? I have a nice Grizzly lathe just sitting. Thought, I can just buy a HSS drill bit in the OD needed and turn down the end for the striker pin.
I used a 1/4x20 SHCS grade 12. I wanted to use something that was soft enough not to dammage the hammer.

I do have a Polish P64 and a CZ82 in 9x18 both of which I love but I don't reload so it's not a problem.

The hammer should be hardened, I think HSS would be perfect. It can be machined and does not need tempered or heat treated.
I want to ask someone, what is the big deal on grip screws? Some are priced 4 for 12 plus $8 shipping!!
I am assuming they are just metric and you could use button head allen screws.

Wolff Springs got back to me on using the Glock 17 piston & spring combo........ "We can not confirm or deny this use of said product".......... Guess they don't want the liability potential, not that I blame them.

I picked up a Star BM on an estate sale over the summer. It's a nice low recoil shooter.
I recently picked up a Don Hume H721 holster sized for a Colt Commander that seems to fit it well.

There's a few out there, J&G sells a kydex version, US Holsters has multiple nylon styles for all Star pistols, etc, etc.

List of holster makers:
http://star-firearms.com/info/parts.shtml#holsters

Been... I dunno, 3-5 years since I updated it. If any don't offer more now or you have one you like, message me with any details or opinions as well as contact info if you can, and I'll add or remove as required.
Stealth Gear USA comes up "Error 404, Page not found"

Kramer doesn't show one for the BM model.

Galco also doesn't make them for the BM model.

Horseshoe is currently not taking orders and doesn't make one for the BM model.

Ted Blocker, again no listing for the BM model.

As for Milt Sparks, (and Ted Blocker) a little rich for my blood.

Thanks though!

Will update.

Also:
Several makers do not list everything. You have to call.
A/B sized guns are close enough to 1911 size that they fit in most 1911 holsters IME. My B Super fits in my Arratoonian perfectly, for example. It's a little odd in a (forget who) kydex, but if you like leather, most anything will do.

The BM is very close to Commander length if that helps.

And you deserve a Milt Sparks! :)

I have to pay off some of my recent acquisitions before I have to leverage my house for a Milt Sparks holster......... ;)

Just got back from my LGS, picking up the Star. Does it look good and it just feels sweet, the action is super smooth and the trigger feels crisp. Definitely some holster wear and two grinding marks where they removed what was probably police markings.

Found an old Uncle Mike's holster I've had for decades that fits, kinda sorta, it's just a smidge loose and no retainer strap. Will definitely have to buy a proper holster sometime relatively soon. Also considering re-blueing it with Durablue.

You might consider a simple Yaqui style holster for now, which is incredibly easy to carry with or used for range duty. MidWay has an El Paso on sale now.

If you want to spot blue give 44/40 a try.

Not sure what you mean. They shipped it to my FFL and I picked it up. I did get an email previously saying it had been shipped with a tracking number.

That’s what I meant. I haven’t gotten that email yet.

Are you happy with it?

Yup, newer stocks help. Keep it oiled and I wouldn't try to reblue. That looks like honest (carried for a living) sorts of wear to me.

If you do want to reblue: that extractor is one of those that won't take it. It supposed to be a case hardened straw color (more or less, depends on the decade it was made) not gray/blue/black finished. Triggers are usually in the white.

Like the stocks worked, I'd look into getting some new screws. That little detail of not-chewed-up screws will also help it look newer and sharper.

And last for the prettifying, in Fire it is supposed to have (came from the factory with) a red dot. That got removed, maybe just aggressive cleaning agents, at some time. Degrease and drop a dab of red paint in the big dimple, sometime.

Now you have in hand, find when it was made:

Unfortunately ran into a problem when I tried reassembling it after feild stripping it. The stop pin assembly wouldn't go back in, noticed it was bent so emailed J&G. About 15 minutes ago Mike from J&G called me, we figured out there is something definitely wrong with my gun. They're closing right now so tomorrow Mike will fax me a shipping label, I'll drop it off to be shipped and when he receives it he'll send me another that he hand selects. He said that he thinks there is only 5 left out of the 35,000 they picked up 3 years ago.

They probably haven't shipped it yet, took about 5 days for mine to be shipped. Mine has some major problem and they are going to replace it.
