I am new here. My name is Jurij and I live in Slovenia.

Today i'm going to buy a new Uberti's Walker and Remington bp revolvers. Does anybody ever saw a Walker in "white finish"? Importer claims that this is a white burnish and the Walker looks like an inox stainless steel :what: Walker is unused and looks nice as importer claims. I know that this finish might not be historical ... but I will see. Otherwise I will purchase a Lyman Hawken .45 cal percussion rifle.

Does anybody ever try to install a loading lever latch at the end of the loading lever on Walker to look like a Dragoon?? I know that it is not historic but loading lever should never drop again even at heavy loads.

Have a nice day,

Icy

The dropping loading lever is part of the "fun" of a Walker. Cock the hammer, squeeeeeze the trigger, see the flame and fire, hear and feel the booooom, push loading lever back up, look around at all the wide-mouths and big eyes staring at you...repeat five more times.

Icy - how is the weather there?

I recommend a Walker, maybe not as an everyday shooter, but definitely as part of a collection. I do not have any experience with the "white finish" guns, but I'm sure others on this forum will know about them.
How are the gun laws in your country in regards to black powder arms?

Welcome Aboard

The early original Walkers, like the ones presented to Sam Walker, by Sam Colt, had a cylinder that was left in the white. I've never seen one of the new Ubertis in the white. Sounds interesting.

The period correct way to keep the loading lever up, is to tie a leather thong, like a leather shoe lace, around the barrel and loading lever. That's what they did in the old days. Good luck with your new guns.

Mike

If one has gun licence (I do not know the proper english word) than he or she can purchase any black powder pistol, rifle or revolver. Black powder on the other hand is declared as explosive and one must have special handling licence for explosives in this case for black powder. But the test is easy and every adult person can do it, just has to show how to proper load and shoot bp firearms! To receive gun licence is again another story and there is almost impossible to receive one. I was lucky :) .

Icy!
Are you buying from a european company?
I noticed that some pieces are available over there, that don't normally make market here.
There was Czech site that offered a "Wyatt Earp" Pietta in a steel frame but all the american sellers had only brass framed models.
Anyway, if so, that might explain a Walker in a white finish.

I just come back home with my two new guns: a Walker and a Remington model 1858. My local Uberti importer said that Walker's white finish is a new one. Also new is Uberti's new construction of Remington's substitute cylinder in .45 Long Colt. Next time I will take my digital camera and post some pictures of that new cylinder.

I am posting pictures of Walker in white finish and Remington in black. I just cant wait to shoot my new babies :D

Wow, you guys don't mess around over there, do you? To come home with those two heavyweights is impressive.

I haven't had a Remington in awhile, so maybe I'm wrong, but that Remington seems a little different in style from the one I had. Anyone else see it? Maybe where the barrel meets the cylinder, or the top strap is different... maybe I'm nuts.
Great looking guns...

If your Remy was an Armi San Paolo or Euroarms, then it was an Old Model Army with no bbl threads showing at the breech end. The Euroarms/Armi San Paolo were were and are a direct copy of an Old Model Army(Model 1861 OMA others are Model 1863 NMA) The Uberti's/Pietta's are New Model Armies. That is all I can tell in the photo

Mine was a Uberti. Actually, Smokin' Gun has it now.
SG, where are you?
I think my memory is going.

SG lives just a few mile from me. I haven't seen his Uberti Remy. but have fired his Armi San Paolo/ Euroarms. It has the smoothest trigger pull I ever felt. That's why I went with Euroarms 58 Remy's that and they are the same size and weight as the original Remington-Beals framed Remy's.
I'll have a couple more soon, but I sold My euroarms 58's and my Uberti Carbine to get my two origianl Remy Conversions.

I am currently looking for a new home for the R & D 45LC conversion I put in the first Original Remy.
The reason?
I found two 44 Rem/Colt C.F. R & D conversion Cylinders and since I shoot and reload that cartridge and not the 45LC, I bought one and want to buy the other one. That is the only reason as these Conversions rock.
If anyone is interested in a barely used(a cylinder full is all)R & D Conversion Cylinder in 45 LC, PM me and I'll tell you the details.

OD,
I emailed SG lately to let him know that I felt really bad about not making it over there to see you guys yet. I got really busy with my degree and creating resumes and that sort of thing.
At least my brother in law has a place for me to stay in Lancaster.

But it seemed like he was feeling fairly ill, and under the weather. I'm not sure what's up with his health. He's only posted once, that I can tell, since then. I think that maybe a few "Hey howzit going there?" emails might perk his spirits up.

Good Job, Icy

Is Uberti selling conversion cylinders now? We haven't seen any of those in the US, yet. Can you get cartridge ammo pretty easily over there?

Uberti is now producing and selling conversion cylinder for the Remington model 1858 New Improwed Army and official name for revolver and conversion cylinder together is:

1858 New Army Conversion Cal. 38SP, 38-40, 44-40, or 45LC, BBL 5 1/2" - 8" .

Price in Slovenia for 45LC (revolver and 45LC cylinder but without bp cylinder!!!) is 370€ (taxes included)

This revolver is not in official Uberti price list yet. Our importer received one last year when Uberti starts with production. Ask your local Uberti importers about availability if one is interested. This or next month I will go with our Uberti importer to their factory in Brescia, Italy. Will try to get any information I can get from them directly!

The price should be lower in USA than in Europe. I paid for 1858 Remington 44 New Improved Army 223,25€ and for Walker 327,17€ (prices includs 19,5% taxes).

Have a nice day

Jurij

Mike, in Slovenia if one have gun license he can purchase unlimited amount of ammo in caliber stated in gun license (in may case it is .25AUTO) and ONLY in that caliber!

Our new gun law was issued I think in 2002. It liberalized purchasing a guns only a little. There must always be stated a reason for purchasing. Mostly it is protection. But in our constitution there is no statement that one must protect himself, his family and his property . So: No reason - no license! If one want a big bore sidearm for protection he or she better purchase one illegal and than waiting for next firearms legalization and than declared it as new gun. In that case usually noone ask you where you get it. That's what I will do in future

I hope I put everything gramtically OK. If you find some errors you can keep them! :)

Have a nice day! Icy

Cimarron Firearms is selling the Remington New Army Conversion here in the US. In .45 it comes with a Cartridge and a percussion cylinder. I haven't seen the cylinder available by itself, yet.

That's a great picture of the Walker. :)

Beautiful guns, especially the finish on the Walker.
I'm curious about what brand of powders are available for you to buy and where are they are made?
I've heard that some Poles have trouble getting powder, and that their own Polish made powder is mostly exported.

Hi arcticap,

In Slovenia are a various brands of black powder available: Goex, Hodgdon, Swiss powders and our own Slovenian powders making by KIK Kamnik. If there is no popular brands currently available we just go to Austria or Italy and stores are no more than 100 miles away.

The most popular is of course our own KIK black powder (far left on the picture) and is also exported but I believe under different brand name and I do not know which. So no panic about black powders around here :)

Dragoon

And isn`t a Dragoon a critter on that Star Wars movie ? :neener:
Ha ..sorry couldn`t help myself ..brain fart !

I want your Walker

Did you do something to pretty up the Walker since the 1st picture? A little polish, maybe? It looks really great.

Being in the white is possibly period correct. Some guns were left in the white from the factory, though probably not Walkers. But often, when bluing would wear off, guns were left in the white, rather than being refinished.

Finish or no finish?

Just have to love the clear finish on the Icy's Walker, I do!
One thing strikes me. I see no hardening colors on the frame  .
These would mean this gun was hardened differently, so an entire different way of hardening at Uberti. Would that be possible for a, otherwise made in series, single gun?
Is this the first a new series of white Walkers, just an experience or maybe the gun was not finished yet before it was assembled?
Icy's gundealer said it was burnished, I know 'ball burnished' as a finish of aftermarket valve stems for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. I think this is a way to make metal smooth by a sort of hammering the steel with little balls or so, but gives no actual (protective) finish?
Just wondering since nobody seemes to have seen another white Walker.
Full of questions, but does anyone have the answers?
