Walking out of pawn shops with guns

After the last time I went, I kinda had a revelation: "I've got a wife and little kids at home, what am I doing voluntarily going into this neighborhood?!?" That pretty much ended it for me...

Way I figure, staying out of trouble should factor into cost on a 'deal'...

But what do I know...

Denver Pawn Shops?

About a year ago I stopped at a pawn shop in Lower Downtown (LoDo) Denver and looked for guns. The party behind the counter said that I would not find a pawn shop in the city which sold guns.

I soon found what I wanted in a pawn shop in Lafayette, so I quit looking after that.

But I wonder: Is this a law in Denver, or just common practice for the pawn shops there, or was the guy BSing me for some reason?

hehe, found a deal that I just couldn't pass up day before yesterday, a maverick 12ga in great condition for only $75 (and the store was having a 30% off sale on everything in the store, INCLUDING the guns!). I had left the credit card at home so I went to get it and misunderstood the man when he said the shop closed, got there an hour late  .

anyway, I didn't get it, someone else had their eye on it I guess cause it is gone. *kick dirt, clench fist, grumble, grumble*... sry, back on topic

I don't worry too much about it, maybe go from condition yellow to orange for the short walk.

only been approached once and that was at an indoor range, carrying my cased rifle back to my car a "getto thug" asked me what I had been shooting, I did my best impression of a mad scientist and told him with a little giggle, this threw him off base, he asked if he could see it and I put a very sinister look on my face and said "only if you'll be my test subject for my latest invention!" he gave me a look of concern and mutter "naw" and quickly walked off.

ok, that never happened, but it sounds like something I would do :D

I have had too much mountain dew this morning, I feel like that squirell from over the hedge...

I wish I could get a good deal at a pawn shop around here. Sadly they want more for their used beat-up guns than new ones at the gun store. A while back I had to carry an uncased rifle out of a gunshop, but I wasn't worried at all.(Nice area, about five cops inside and CCW!)

My local purveyor of fine firearms provides a hard case (either generic clamshell, or manufacturer's hard case) to transport the handgun. When I get to the car, which is parked as close to the door as possible, it's into the boot (sorry, trunk to you Yanks), and then I'm gone. I steer clear of shops that are in a less-than-favorable area of town.

Sometimes the crummy areas of town you find great deals, like where they sold their like-new S&W prelock revolver to get money to pay the rent. Or Grandpappy's Army Colt for money to buy new tires. Whatever. But you have to go often enough to get a rapport with the owner/countermen, buy a few that are maybe not the best deal but pretty good, so you get on the "in" side of them. Then they start calling yo uwhen they get something you want, hiding stuff in the back for you, etc.
