WallyWorlds' 10/22 "rifle" shoot good?

Happy New Year!!
I am new here and enjoy what I've seen so far.!
I see Wally has a rifle version of the good ol' ruger and was wondering if anyone has shot one and what your impressions were.? I like the carbine version just fine,but hey,something new is something ya "gotta have",right??
I like plinking at 100 yds,and would like an inexpensive .22 that will do moa or close to it at that range.

Are you referring to the 10/22-22? The one with a stainless finish, 22" barrel and a deluxe sporter style stock? If that's the one, they are pretty nice. The fit and finish on mine is pretty much the same as my other 10/22s. They don't have the barrel band that the regular 10/22s come with, so it is potentially more accurate than a stock 10/22, but I feel that the trigger is still the weak point on these. With some trigger work, you could have a pretty decent shooter.

I think you are asking a great deal to get 1moa from any .22lr. I acheived 1 inch groups just once (5 shot) and that was with a Remington bolt action 541S. Never been able to get better than 1.5 inches with a Ruger 10/22. Good luck

I would consider 1" to 2" at 50 with chosen loads to be a bit more realistic for the 10-22s.

This may not be exactly what the poster is asking, but why the constant assumption that Wal-Mart guns are worse than normal ones? Do they have a 'Wal-Mart" line and then a "regula" line at the factory? Seems kind of silly.

Oh i dont know. I have one I got from Kmart. I assume that Kmart and Wallmart get about the same quality guns. This is the base blue model with the wood stock. With a crappy Tasco 4x scope and cheapo blazer ammo, I can blast clays layed on the backstop at 100 yards without many misses. And this is from a bench to rest my elbows on and I am not that great of a shot. I wouldnt be surpised if I can get consistent sub 2 inch groups with a better scope and rest, not to menion a longer stock and maybe a heavy barrel.

i heard from various sources that the guns at wal mart were ones that failed certain factory QC standards. like slight blemishes, looser tolerances, etc. supposedly thats how wal mart got them so cheap. because you have to figure, wal mart doesnt buy guns in extreme bulk like everything else they sell.

As an ex WallyWorld manager with no loyalty nor many fond memories, I must bust on you for repeating such a silly "rumor". Can you imagine, seriously, the execs and QC department at Ruger saying' "Well these guns fail our inspection, but let's sell them anyway." Why then, even have a QC department? I mean if the largest retailer of guns (not extreme bulk?) can sell these failed firearms why do they even bother inspecting any of them. Hell, it's not like their reputation depends on them manufacturing a dependable and aesthetically pleasing firearm. I don't want to start a war by ragging you too hard, but might I suggest that when your "various sources" speak on such issues you might want to install your tinfoil beanie.

I have had 3 10-22's in hopes of finding one that will shoot. None would do better than 1" at 25 yards, 2 1/2" at 50 and 5" at 100 yards. I can shoot a lot better than that, it was the guns. I have heard guys say that the one they have is SOOOO much better than the ones I have had, but have only seen it ONE time. That gun was a 10-22T with the heavy barrel and laminated stock, and cost about $400.

For my money the Marlins are hands down more accurate if you are just wanting to shoot the gun as you bought it. If you plan on customizing the 10-22 is the route to take.

Wal-Mart buys first quality guns, and in rather large quantities.

I have heard it too, man. I just don't believe it. Not only does it not make sense to me from a production standpoint (QC is pass or fail, not pass, fail, and send to Wal-Mart), but when I purchased a Mossberg 500 1.5 years ago I repeatedly held the ones at Wal-Mart. I ended up purchasing a new one from a local gun dealer and it was of the exact same quality as the Wal-Mart models I had handled. The same was true for my wife, who purchased one at the same time.

Yes, I agree. The best stock 22lr I ever owned was a model 60. I even think it held 16 or so shoots in that tube.

I have no proof, but I'm pretty sure department store guns are the same ones the gun shops get. I would also bet wallmart sells more ruger 10/22s than any other retailer.

There is another forum that may be of some help. I have never posted over there, but I lurk quite often. Some of those boys have some pretty accurate 10/22's.
Do a search about the Wally World 10/22's , if I remember right, the guys on that board liked them.

For MOA@100 from a rimfire, you're probably looking at at least at a CZ rimfire on the low end, with more consistent performance from higher end Kimbers and Anschutz. Whatever you go with, you'll do significantly better with good ammo, not the 8.99 for 500 Wallyworld bricks.

I know that any manufacturer can let a poor quality rifle out the door, but my long experience with 22lr guns is that they can sometimes be the most finicky guns made when it comes to different brands of ammo. I have an old Wally World 10/22 that I aquired for $20 from a person that told me it was a piece of junk, and it also had a bullet lodged in the barrel. I cleaned it up, removed the stuck bullet and tested different ammo in it and found that it will shoot certain brands of ammo into 3/8" groups (sometimes less) at 50 yards, but with others it looked like you shot at the target with a shotgun. So ALWAYS try several different brands of ammo in your 22lr.

Hint ahhh Wally World is the biggest distributer in the US so they get a discount price as they buy more 10/22s than anyone, same gun but that 145 buck new price. Plus even Ruger cant turn out enough "seconds" to keep Wally World stocked if they actually did that.

I have a Wally World 10/22. Haven't played with it much since I bought it but it would get 10 shot groups of under an inch with ammo it liked. I upgraded the trigger but left the rest stock.

Call the closest WallyWorld and ask to speak to the manager. Tell him that you have the money in hand and are ready to purchase a 10/22 and that he needs to have one ready ASAP. Tell him that you know that he can MTR (merchandise transfer request) it from another store and that you would like to have this rifle within a week. If he fails to satisfy you ask for the phone # of his district manager. It probably won't come to this because he (the manager) lives in mortal fear of negative comments reaching his district manager or worst of all Arkansas. I have seen managers deliver, in their own cars, merchandise to peoples' houses after those people complained to headquarters in Arkansas.
