Walmart ARs

I bought my Colt at Wal Mart about 3 weeks ago and it is just great. It is a 6920 with a LE serial number. Also my Wal Mart has federal xm855 ammo for sale. The gun was $1097.00. Couldn't be happier.

I don't know anything about AR15 models, but Sportsmens Warehouse had Bushmasters last month for about $660.00 to 675.00? In Oregon (local store no tax).

Wal-Mart IS one of my local gun stores. I want them to keep selling guns the same as I do Joe Blow's House O' Heaters. I buy from ALL of them.
If that's how you feel then I respect that, I would just prefer to spend the same amount of money at my LGS and support my local business owners instead of feeding the Walmart monster. To each their own.

Don't people ever get tired of beating this dead horse?

Dont people ever get tired of further hurting our economy by buying from walmart just to save a couple bucks?

Not to mention Walmart donates money to anti hunting and fishing organizations... dont be surprised if they send some of the money you spent on that ar15 to the brady campaign one day

Walmart employs millions of people around the world. They make living at a higher standard more affordable for many. I'm happy to vote pro-Walmart via my pocketbook weekly (not to mention Sam Walton is responsible for the very existence of the rather affluent region known as Northwest Arkansas, of which I am a happy resident).

Unfortunately many LGS's biggest enemy isn't Wal-mart, but themselves. Poor hours, high margin/low volume sales mentality, and snotty counter attitudes. I work for a living and am not going to take a vacation day to shop a store that closes when I get off to pay high markup and be told that I shouldn't buy X when Y is better.

That is an over-generalization of course and I am fortunate to have found some great shops. Big-box is no threat to them and they maintain a loyal customer base.

No personal experience with the colt, although I understand they are great rifles. I own a s&w m&p15 OR and my buddy has an equivalent bushmaster (not sure the exact model) and both have under 2000 rounds through them. My s&w has had only one issue and it was because of a under-loaded round and the finish is holding up a little better than his BM. between the two I'd get the s&w but throw in colt for only $100 more and I'd have to take 'er home. Thats as long as they had the same goodies, or lack thereof, of course.

I have nothing against Walmart, I shop there all the time. But what happens if you have a problem? Will the teenager they send over to the gun counter from housewares be able to answer your questions? Will they send it back for warranty work? I get a lot of groceries and ammo at WM but durable goods I prefer to buy elsewhere. Two of the gun shops I go to will send back new guns or replace defective parts for no charge. I got a bad lawn mower at WM and I had to drive it 30 miles to a warranty center. The gas money more than made up for what I saved compared to the Ace Hardware right down the road.

Some years ago I was told by a very knowledgeable man that TV's in particular sold at Wal-Mart were "sub standard". Over the years I have learned that Wally World will put just about anything on their shelf's that can be sold a a price that smaller business's can't even buy the product for. A owner of a Pawn/Gun shop told me once that firearms at Wal-Mart were in fact lower quality. I found that hard to believe but it did peak my interest. Any thoughts on this?

A few years ago, the owner of an archery store told me that Wal-Mart sold second quality Muzzy broad heads.
Apparently these companies select the best from the production line and send it to small stores. :scrutiny:

Well said sir!

That's not far from the mark. I know with electronics and other manufactured products, WM uses their clout to prescribe how products are built to bring prices down.
But, I can't see how WM can do this with firearms, other than some less expensive internals. But, the price difference isn't that great from what a small store can sell for, so it would appear it's an apples:apples comparison.

The thing I like about WM is that I generally don't have to suffer a knowitall clinging to the counter or acting like a piece of the furniture, injecting his opinions (unasked for) into my sale. Generally, every gun shop has some old retired guy or young tactical Ted yammering away at the counter beside me as I try to shop.
WalMart doesn't have that. In fact, I usually have to send up a flare to get an employee back there to make a key or sell me a knife.

I do okay in shops with employees because I know how to steer retail sales employees and get what I want or need. It's the arfcom weirdos that spoil my experience.
