Walmart/Beeman air rifle?

Not sure the model, was grocery shopping and didn't check it out all that long. But, looked like a decent rifle. I noticed on their site they have adjustable triggers on some of 'em, but didn't think to check it out on that one. Will when I go back. Can't be any worse a trigger than my old Benjamin pump up, I reckon. :D

I'll probably run over there tomorrow and pick it up. Need something to plink with around the house so I don't have to make a range trip just to pop a few swinging targets. I'm inside the city limits so CB shorts are not legal even with a good bullet trap. I am not, however, near too many other buildings, woods and field behind the house, small town. I mean, my old Benjamin still shoots, but I want to upgrade a bit.

Thanks.

Careful, they are addictive.

Do any airgun dealers (vendors, aaaaaahhhhhh) set up at guns shows around you, MC???

Going in and handling a bunch is the best way to see what you like. For small varmits around my house (I live near downtown) I use my Beeman (Modified by Beeman in California--trigger job, peep sights, sling) C1 in .177--rabbits, chipmunks, starlings, crows. I like my FWB 127 for longer shots.

Have you checked out the Beeman website? Look at that HW too. Ohhh, Beeman has a HW97K AND a Crow Magnum in the used §.:)

If you have larger critter problems, get that Crow Magnum in .25. Wonderful rifles.

I went to the site and checked out rifles and the pellets. Wow, even got hollowpoint pellets that expand and penetrators with sharp tips and heavy heads. I wasn't real sure which model I was looking at at wallyworld, only that it didn't have any counterweights on it. Not many air guns at the little local shows around here. Haven't been to a big show in a while.

I do pop a possum or coon on occasion around here with CB shorts...quiet if illegal. :D I'm kinda on the edge of town with a lot of woods and brush around me, lots of critters. Even had some wild hogs for a while roaming out back of the house, but they cleared some of that out some time ago. Ain't plannin' to hunt hogs with it, LOL, or really ain't plannin' to hunt with it, but if I get addicted, I do love to squirrel hunt. :D:D

The "hollowpoints" in the smaller calibers are less than optimal. Go with something pointy there.

If you have raccoons, you need the .25. Get the Crow Magnum, you will not be disappointed.

If you can get a copy of Mel Tappan's Survival Guns he shows a Korean air rifle that is alleged used on larger game. It fires a .25 caliber round ball.

The Walmart Beeman's are actually licensed Chinese clones with the Beeman name. Not bad guns and certainly not your daddy's BB gun so to speak but nowhere near the quality of a true Beeman.

Back yard pellet gun shooting is great fun.

I would suggest looking at www.pyramidair.com at some of their air rifle lines to get a feel for noise, quality etc. I like RWS and Mid South Shooters supply usually has pretty good deals such as this. http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000622166196

What model? Marksman owns the Beeman name now, last I heard, and they've put the Beeman name on a lot of stuff over the years.

Well, the Beeman is a "Model 1100" and says 1000 fps, not 1100. Got that screwed up. 130 bucks on it, and they had a 1000 fps Crossman "storm XT" there for $104. The crossman says it has an adjustable trigger, a good thing, because the trigger sux. LOL I got the Crossman going on the advice that the Beeman was a Chinese import anyway. I'm not sure that was the best thing, but I've yet to shoot groups with the Crossman and this is an informal back yard shooting gun after all. They both came with these little 30 dollar scopes, 3x9. What on EARTH do I need a 3x9 on an air rifle for? I plan to leave the scope off. Oh, I'll put it on there to see how it works with it, but the idea is practice with the irons. I have a swinging target I made up out of a 3" slip blind from work (those of you in the chemical industry know) and like shooting that thing for fun. Used to have some plastic bowling pins I used to shoot with my Marksman CO2 fake Python revolver, but they're gone. :D Talk about a messed up trigger, you should shoot that CO2 revolver DA sometime. LOL! It ain't no Python, put it that way.

So, I'm going to mess with that trigger adjustment now. I've fired one pellet into a tree trunk just to see how loud it was. My .22 CB shorts are MUCH quieter, but at least this thing is legal to shoot in the city limits.

Progress report

Okay, bought three boxes of different brands/styles of pellet. Started with Daisy, don't waste your money. I'll probably melt 'em down to make one .38 105 SWC, if they have that much lead in 'em, ROFL! "Accuracy" about 4" at 25 yards. The Crossman pointed pellets did about 2" at 25. The Gamo "Ballistic tip" Rocket "hunting ammo" (they have a pellet in the nose, remind me of the Winchester 25 auto loads) shot under an inch. NOT SHABBY and of course are the most expensive at about 3 bucks for 150. They seem to fit a little tighter in the chamber, may be the reason they're better, or might be the forward weight bias, don't know.

Now, the trigger sux and that adjustment screw seems to be for looks cause it ain't done a DAMN thing since I've been playing with it. It feels like a bad SKS trigger, only a little creepier yet. :banghead: But, I seem to be able to hit with it and it's not real stiff. I guess if I can hit with THIS trigger, hell, a real rifle is no problem. I reckon you gotta spend more than a hundred bucks to get perfection. It ain't much worse than my old Benjamin, though, and you ain't gotta waste energy pumping a pump 10 times. I killed a lot of squirrel with that old .22 cal Benjamin before I got my .22 for my 9th birth day, even one big swamp rabbit when I was 7. That's the gun that addicted me to hunting.:D

Now, I'm going to play a little with the scope and shoot some groups.

The scope

Forget the scope, don't work worth a toot. It seems to double my group sizes. I think one of two things is going on, either the scope is just a POS (optics are poor, but I'm talking jumping around) or more than likely it's the fact that the xcope mounts on the frame. Now, I don't feel much slop in the lock up, but I'm thinking the barrel probably doesn't lock up in the same exact place twice. The open sights are mounted ON the barrel, so lock up doesn't matter. It shoots great at 25 yards, just under 1", with the iron sights and they're really visible day glow fiber optic insert type sights, too, really easy to use in sunlight. Up under my car port, the rear sight is shaded a bit. Sight picture is much better in the sun.

Guess ebay won't allow scopes anymore, all anti-gun. I don't think it'd sell on a gun auction site with gun savvy types. LOL I'd feel guilty selling the POS for over 10 bucks anyway, lol, is probably okay for a .22, but not exactly a quality optic. I only thought Simmons made junk, LOL!

I find that my 3" blind flange is easy to hit at 25 yards off hand, trigger control being the biggest challenge. At 30 yards with a good rest, no problem, a little more challenge off hand. But, at 40, I haven't found the elevation yet. I'll play with it, but 40 seems to be were the pellet starts to really drop. I put up a squirrel target and killed it consistently out to 30 yards. So, really, it's about like my old Remington bolt gun shooting CB short for effective range due to trajectory, but it lacks the punch. All in all, I wish it had a decent trigger, but it is accurate and makes for some good backyard practice which is what I wanted in the first place. I'll keep my .22s for small game, though, thanks. Oh, I might pop a squirrel in the yard sometime with it, but we don't have that many around here.

@MCgunner:

Thanks for the detailed reviews / range reports. Great information!

Now, go and buy that Beeman, and do a comparison!

beeman makes one of your better products, and they actually have some decent wood on them. Accuracy is usually better than you can do.
Sounds like you got a decent one there. Usually on springer air guns, the triggers are made with big honkin springs in there. see if you can get to them, and replace, cut coils, or get a file on what is probably a HUGE step in the sear/ hammer connect.

Remember when shooting a spring gun it is the opposite of shooting a real rifle. You do NOT want to pocket and hold it tight. You want to have a light gentle hold on a spring gun.
