So I checked my Walmart for these rifle deals (that I don't really need) at Walmart. Nope, none.

But what is this under the glass? a 3-9x Leupold Rifleman scope for $139? Sign me up. I ended up getting both:
Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40mm Wide Duplex #56160 for $139
and
Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40mm Wide Duplex #56170 for $169

The second one was not marked, I had him check it anyway. Might want to check your stores.

Weird that all of my local walmarts have this exact scope in the case but its not showing on brickseek or walmart.com. I need a new ML scope as I hate the nikon on there now. Maybe I will take a ride later and see what they got.

I dump enough money into Palmetto State Armory that I can afford to send 2 checks to the fine people at Leupold via Walmart without too much guilt.
The good folks at Leupold do not like the fact that Walmart tells them what the manufacturers price of each one of those new Rifleman scopes will be even before they are produced. And why do they get to do that? Because folks like you and everyone else shops there to the point of exclusion.

I needed to make the point and totally understand if the post is deleted...I do not want to hijack the thread over all.

The fact is, that's no different for any of their suppliers, whether it's rifle scopes, garden hoses or pots and pans. If you're selling to Walmart, you're accepting thin margins for high volume. The good folks at Leupold like it just fine, or they wouldn't be doing it.

The Rifleman looks like they might be hydroform tube front half ( dunno )

Redfield Revolutions have same look.

Rifleman have friction turrets and ? Lens coatings. Suspect that stuff to be like old Vari X ii.

And that was good enough for a long while.

The Redfield Rev has click adj.

Both are nicer looking in profile, than the new Freedom VX .

If the Rifleman had click Id buy one and blackout the objective ring lettering.
Might still do it if on sale.

Just got a like new Redfield Rev for 125 off a bud.

The Redfield line brought out by Leupold had two branches....the Revolution stuff that was US machined/ designed/ asembled......and the Revenge line, which was imported.... Philippines I think.

Appears the Revenge stuff is no mo.

Stopped off to see what of the discounted items my walmart had remaining. I was hoping to get a 3x9, but ended up with the last 4x12, which was still marked at the regular price. When I asked the associate to scan it for kicks and giggles, he didn't seem to happy, but did it anyways. When it came back marked down he was pleasantly surprised, until he found out he would have to go to the back to get the box. I didn't really want the display, but asked when he got back with the box if he would take it down to half off the original price since it was the display. He said he would double check to make sure it hadn't been marked down again. It hadn't, but he said he could take it down to $150. So I walked out with $20 off the clearance price. Moral of the story, it never hurts to ask for more off, especially displays, the worst they can say is no:)

Those aren't great prices on a Rifleman. For $30 more you can do a LOT better. The Rifleman was introduced about 20 years ago and was nothing more than a VX-1 with no options to keep the price down. The Redfield Revolution was the same scope with different badges. The VX-1 could be had in numerous variations, different reticles etc. not offered on the Rifleman or Revolution. If you bought an basic VX-1 it sold at the same price as the Rifleman. It's just that the Rifleman was marketed toward Walmart. If you wanted a different reticle, CDS, or any magnification other than 3-9X40 or 2-7X32 you had to buy the VX-1 and pay more.

The problem is that both of those scopes are still the same as introduced. In fact they could well be 10-20 years old and have been sitting in a stock room since the 1990's. In the same time Leupold upgraded their VX-1 line of scopes twice before dropping both the VX-1 and VX-2 and upgrading for a 3rd time with the VX-Freedom which can be had under $200. The glass is far better on the VX-Freedom. I was able to buy a 4-12X40 VX-Freedom recently for $185 and it came with a set of Leupold rings.

Many of the Leupold optics are made in Asia, that includes most binoculars. All of their scopes are ASSEMBLED in the USA from parts from all over the world. Virtually all of the glass comes from Asia regardless of the scope maker. Some use European glass, but will sell well into 4 figures.

I was hoping to get a 3x9, but ended up with the last 4x12,

No one makes such a scope. They do make 3-9X and 4-12X.

I think Leupold sources lenses and maybe drive assembly. The tube and other done here.

The Freedom line looks like crap. The turret body and caps blocky. Eye piece lock ring and selector look cheap.

At least on the 2-7 and 3-9x models of 1" tube.

The Rifleman and Redfield Revenge look better aesthetically IMHO.

And even if non Multicoat 4 lenses, can kill most critters dead

Just because something might be better in one or two regards performance wise, doesnt mean the other is unusable.

I would like to get a Rifleman gold ring to swap onto my Redfield though. Do not like the lettering on the Rifleman obj ring.
And my Redfield has click, like my two last run VX1s.

Heck, id like an old 8X AO leupold for my #1.

Yup theyre nice. Theyre old. And IMHO.mist are overpriced on the used market.

But then my jeep is old. My rifle is old. My ol lady is old. Just need to find an old whitetail back in the creekbottom LOL

Last 2 yrs been running an 80s era 4x. Works good.

Problem w old Leupolds, is getting em fixed.
Bet they dont dont much in old parts anymore. Maybe they keep some unfixables for parts scavenge?

Dunno. Thinking out loud

Ive got the Freedom RDS, a 2-7x and a 3-9x.
Standard 1" models.
They aint wowin me.
