I've been all over town looking for a good deal on a semi auto .22 and found something ridiculous. 2 out of the 3 Walmarts around me no longer sell guns at all! Their 'Sports and Leisure' section now just has one small aisle for crappy airsoft guns, some cheapo scopes, slings, some cleaning kits, and a small cabinet that never has the kind of ammo I want. Lame.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is it part of Walmart's attempt to seem more friendly and less industrial by replacing the standard logo that's been around forever with that stupid little flower-like thing?

Stupid.

Weird...... our Walmarts are packed with nice guns and ammo (all 6 of them within a 20 minute drive).

Are you located in a "gun friendly" state?

Another Wal-Mart thread? Fabulously delightful. Great way to start the week.

Yes, some Wal-Marts sell guns and some don't. In the not so distant future, no Wal-marts will sell guns and probably ammo as well.

John - sorry, in the past 3 pages of threads I could only find one that dealt with Walmart at all, and it was talking about ammo.

I live in Texas - almost as gun friendly as you can get. If I weren't used to something different, this wouldn't have been a big deal, but I noticed this change just happend within the past few months.

No problem, Strakele. It's an old joke about Wal-Mart threads. They used to be as think as thieves, but they are getting rare as hens teeth as of late.

I was told by the lady behind the counter at our WalMart that they were no longer considered a "Rural" Walmart because of how much the county had grown in that area. So no more guns.

I live in a decent sized town and 1 of 3 walmarts still carries guns. The counter guy said that other ones were not selling the minimum amount required to keep them in stock and the floor space could be put to use with something that does sell.

I have three Wal-Marts within a 10 mile radius of my house. Only one stocks firearms, but they all sell ammo & accessories.

Yeah, we've discussed this before and come up with the conspiracy and the rational reasons.

Walmart is market driven. How a square foot is used depends upon how profitable it can be. All the Walmarts around me sell long guns and ammunition, but only one sells reloading supplies. The one closest to me has very reduced firearms selection, while another just a tiny bit further out has 3 times as many long guns. Some have little pistol ammo and a lot of rifle and shotgun ammunition while others have little long gun fodder and a good selection of pistol ammo.

Some stores may get out of firearms because the manager can't find staff that he trusts to complete the 4473s properly to keep him out of trouble and some may just not like guns and not want to deal with them.

So, if your Walmart doesn't sell firearms or ammo just look around for one that does.

hso: Walmart is market driven. How a square foot is used depends upon how profitable it can be.

Conspiracies, politics and anything else aside, it is the dollar that counts in the retail world. For simplification look at it like this, pretend Wal-Mart is on a 30 day pay cycle. If they can turn over received inventory in less than 30 days, then they are making money off of nothing in a sense; however, if it takes more than 30 days, they (Wal-Mart) are paying the vendors to warehouse their (the vendors) inventory.

It depends on the town/market they are in, it's about sales and they only sell guns in towns that they think can sustain a market for them.

This has to be the correct answer. The thought of Wal*Mart struggling to be politically correct is pretty funny.

Visit a Wal*Mart in the suburbs of a medium sized city. Then visit a Wal*Mart in a rural small town - you're will find a different selection (and in my experience, often a very different staff).

I live in a rural small town, namely Oneonta,Alabama. Approx.10,000 population. We are a VERY gun friendly town/county. Nearly everyone hunts here, even the ladys. Our WM Superstore has about 2 single shot shotgun,rifles,2 pump/autoloading shotguns,2 centerfire rifles (bolt or other) and a couple of muzzle loaders. I don't even stop by the gun counter anymore. We buy our guns elsewhere when buying but most folks already have their hunting guns.

I aint buyin' it.

I have seen that press release and I ain't buyin'it. Deminished sales? Gunshops can't keep most semi-autos in this area due to high demand. This may be a recent occurance but the local WM hasn't increased their inventory at all. (This is a moot point with me as I no longer buy guns from WM anyway)

I wonder how many times we have to post this news article until everyone has read it:

The fact is that Walmart stopped selling hand guns in the the 1990's in order to be politically correct. Many shooters have not forgotten this, and it is easy to interpret their current action as another effort to appease the liberals.
