Whenever I go to WalMart, I always make my way through their sporting goods department. Say what you will, but they do have pretty good prices on the few guns they do stock. The ammo prices ain't bad either. They have 28 gauge shells for under ten bucks!

The other day I was surprised by what they had displayed in their gun case.

They had a Rossi Circuit Judge. They have the rifled barrel version. There is a big sign next to it stating something to the effect that you are getting both a shotgun and a rifle in one package.

It was priced under five hundred dollars.

I figured that they only stock common and popular firearms. I guess this Circuit Judge must be more popular than I thought.

I was also looking thorugh a recent issues of American Rifleman. There is a Rossi ad and a 28 gauge Circit Judge is displayed as an option for this gun. It is a smooth bore. I realize that gun ads and availability are not always the same. But I guess they are out there.

They also have one in 22 rimfire version that has an interchangeable, magnum cylinder. The lever action version, on the other hand, is about the goofiest thing I have ever heard of.

Are these guns really that popular?

The Wally World store only about 50 miles from me has a lot of stuff.
A good selection of firearms and a surprising amount of reloading supplies.
The problem is they never have anyone attending the gun counter and trying to get a clerk to come over to it can take forever.
I don't know how many times I've walked out because something I wanted wasn't out on the open shelves and never could get a clerk to show up.

To bad they treat you like an elevated threat any time you buy one.

I figured that WalMart must hire folks that are not quite qualified for Federal Civil Service.

One time, a young lady did come over to the gun counter to help me. I asked if she was into shooting and/or hunting. She told me that she was a vegan and didn't much care for guns. I asked her why she was working sporting goods. I was told it was her assignment.

I hope the pharmacy workers are better scrutinized.

QFT.

Edit: A local WalMart sells a shotgun/pistol combo.. It looks like a long-barreled revolver with a buttstock. Apparently, it's chambered for .45 LC and .410 gauge. A Rossi, IIRC. I can't imagine this thing is popular, but I guess I could be wrong. It's novel, that's for sure.

I went into a WalMart to buy a gun (sue me) a couple of months ago, and was turned away because my driver's license had been renewed less than a year earlier. They claimed that it's "federal policy" not to sell guns to anyone without ID that shows current address at least a year old. I had bought a gun the month before at Cabelas with no problem, and told them so, but the answer didn't change.

So I called a different WalMart and asked, and they said the person I had dealt with at the first WalMart was a moron, and they could sell me the gun. So I went in the other WalMart, and was turned away again (and again, because my driver's license had been renewed less than a year earlier).

One of the reasons Walmart hardly gets any of my business.
All the employees have to be certified morons and the store policies are ridiculous.
Last time I was in the one we have I needed a couple cans of the canned air I use for blowing dust off optics.
They wanted ID to prove I was over 18.
I'm almost 70 :banghead:

I'm lucky a buddies Grandpa works at mine and has hunted and fished his whole life. But before he was there i bought a 22 rifle (i guess it was 1996 or 97) and hadn't turn 21 yet.. So the lady sells me the gun then refused to sell me shells because i was not 21 and they could go into a pistol..:scrutiny: I kept my temper down left and bought some elsewhere..

No telling what people from your generation are up to John. You might have wanted to make a bomb out of that air can. I've seen MacGyver. And I've seen that Richard Dean Anderson in Stargate Universe recently too. He's one of you guys for sure. There's no telling what you guys can do with some duct tape and some air. Yeah. We're on to you. ;)
Probably why Wal-Mart doesn't sell Swiss Army Knives. :D

Yeah, I guess they have to be careful with us old farts.
We could get a sniff of that stuff and have a wreck with our walkers!

Actually, half the people I've seen working there look like they're sniffing more than an aerosol can.

It's policy to check ID for canned air, many people including teens huff it getting high off the propellant. The register asks for the ID, it doesn't matter if you are a hundred years old in a hoveround, you're getting carded.

You can say, well obviously I am over 18, but where do you draw the line? Companies are doing away with letting the employees use their digression because there are people who don't look their age or look older than they are. So they are going with the safest "card everyone" approach. And if you owned a business you'd do the same.

Was it a lot of trouble to hand your license over to the clerk?

As for the license being too "new" I had them tell me that at Bass Pro, but after a manager came by they let it slide, as I had just gotten a new license. Lots of companies have policies on the books that don't make a lot of sense, some enforce strictly and some don't it seems.

Oh no, not another nanny.
Those 2 cans I got will probably last me for 6 months to a year, but wally world just gets even less of my trade.
If a store is selling something with an age restriction and can't tell I'm many decades past legal age I'll go elsewhere.

I bought my Swiss Army knife from Wal-Mart.

I remember once when I was a little kid I was standing in the "BB gun" section just looking (not touching) and a lady walked up to me and said I couldn't look at the BB guns without a parent and made me leave the isle.

Last time I was at Walmart i saw they had the Rossi Circuit Judge there too. Seems like they've been getting lots of different guns in lately. For some reason they never ask me for an id whenever I go to buy ammo. However it may be because I'm in that one walmart several times a day working and It's normally the only one I buy ammo from. It also seems like its always different people working in sporting goods so its not like they remember me. BTW I'm 19 so I don't really look that old. My guess is they don't really care and just take your word that you're old enough, when they do happen to ask. Sometimes they don't even do that.

Ask to see their gun catalog. The have a wide variety of expensive firearms availabe by special order. The stores mainly stock the lesser priced items since they turnover more rapidly.

My local WalMart carries Mini's and does special orders. They also sell bulk packs of shotgun shells, including buck, and .223.

The Walmart nearby is well stocked with ammo . I like their economy pack of 12 g shells, 15 pieces in a box for $ 9. I bought several slugs and 00 bucks for the inevitable SHTF. LOL

My local WalMart recently started selling guns as well. Actually makes me want to go by and buy one just to support them selling guns. Just something that seems American about having guns in a "regular" store.

As far as their products and policies, their products are better than they used to be but as always "buyer beware". Wal Mart store policies are no worse than the laws enacted by the clowns in Washington and the ways they are interpreted by the lawyers in the rest of the country... Every policy they have there is a "CYA" reaction to some lawsuit I'll bet.

There are a lot of places in this country if you run out of ammo or need hunting supplies your out of luck, I'm not walmart regular, but they have saved the day on several of my hunting trips. As for the employees, they do what they are told to do and some are more knowledgable about firearms and some are not. We even have a couple of walmarts in my area that sell relaoding supplies. I will continue to give them my business.

ATF had a little "discussion" with Rossi about the 28ga ... and it was shortly after announced that it would not be brought to market.

Every firearm outlet(except the pawn shop) in this area makes you do the "perp" walk---Scheel's,Cabela's and even Guns Unlimited have an employee walk your purchase to the front door.

Walmart's policy is no big deal because EVERYBODY else does it too---I wouldn't own any guns if I got all bent out of shape about it.

The only Walmart in the area that sells guns has a Mini-14 and a Rossi in the case. Plain jane Mossberg 500's sell for $83 less than anybody else in the metro---guess who sells a ton of Mossberg 500's. There is also an employee at the gun counter EVERYTIME I go in there--the whole process is quite quick and painless----I spend more time trying to decide what I want than trying to get out the door with my purchase.
