I went in there to pick up a 12 gauge boresnake for my new HR Topper, and lo and behold, I look down, see bulk ppacks of 100 shells for 20 bucks!!! I only picked up one (for now). Didn't know they were that cheap there! I'm gonna have lots of fun.

Yeah, they have winchester 9mm target rounds for 20 a box or remington 9mm 250round "Bonus Packs" for 50 bucks. some decent prices on ammo for target practice. Still probably cheaper to reload but I dont have that option at the moment

I think he was talking about the federal 12 gauge shotty shells, they are a good deal for practice and clays.
The 9mm is by far the best price I can get around here.

I still prefer ordering in bulk online. I paid about $160 for 1440 rounds of 9mm, perfect for target practice.

PS. Yeah, WallyWorld may be evil, but Federal 150gr Soft Point 30-06 for $12.47, 22lr bulk for $13, 12 gauge slugs for $3.15. Need to check .308 SP and see if it's comparable to '06.

I like wal-mart for .22lr. It is 7 bucks cheaper than anywhere else I go. The cheapest at any gun shop around here is 20 dollars for 500 rounds.

Wal-Mart is great for some calibers of ammo. Cheap.

Unfortunately, most of us are boycotting that China-loving den of commercialism. A lot of us refuse on principle to step foot into one of those stores.

That's OK, though. We can just send the wife or one of the kids....

I am located between two different Wal Marts. I usually go to one of them and occasionally go to the other. I noticed that the one I don't frequent has long guns for sale, still has the best price for ammo, and yesterday while I was in there I got a can of CLP and some Hoppes #9, they have a pretty complete selection of cleaning supplies as well as targets too.

Everything you use involves things made in China. I guess you don't like Chinese people having jobs or a lifting of that economy? Anyway, if you want anything more than a pat-yourself-on-the-back boycott then you had better turn off that computer, pack up all of the clothes you made yourself from wool you sheared off of your own sheep and cotton you picked in your back yard, and move out into that cabin in the woods and live off the land for the rest of your life. Anything short of that is guaranteed to break your boycott on a daily basis.

That is unless you just boycott Wal Mart, just because it's Wal Mart.

I buy certain ammo there.....22LR and Remington .380 100-packs mostly.
It's amazing the people who boycott WalMart because of it's reputed China-produced merchandise....then buy the same merchandise elsewhere. When we're driving past WalMart in protest, we can't look under the hood of the car to see where the components were made, or think about where the gasoline/oil came from, etc.
It's nearly impossible these days to find merchandise NOT produced offshore.
And don't even think about where the computer you are using right now was made.

That's the main thing I like about the local Sportsman's Warehouse. All of the ammo is right out there on the shelf, get it yourself. If it weren't a 30 minute drive from here and 20% more expensive than Wal Mart it might be worth it. But waiting for someone at the Wal Mart counter is not any more time consuming than driving to somewhere else and at least I'm not burning gas.

One poster here recently reported that, even after getting some Wal-mart clerk to open up the case, the clerk sold him the wrong ammo. He wanted .30-30 and was given .30-06.

And, of course, there is a no exchange policy. Made him wait over a half an hour to get an exception...

If you are really getting frustrated, and it happens a lot. Pick up the phone at the back and use the intercom to call someone back there. Most of them require a code to access the intercom, but it can be found online.

Lately I just head over to the next department, like automotive, and have them page someone before I even go to the gun counter.

I think if it's late at night when I go there I might as well just go straight in the door to customer service and ask them to send someone to the gun counter to meet me there.

That doesn't even make sense. When I buy ammo there they always plunk it down and say "This is what you want, right?"...then I hand them the cash.

He must have handed them the cash, said .30-30, and walked off to look at girlie magazines or something.

Back in the day (not sure about now) you could call the store operator and say "This is Bob in automotive, please transfer me to the intercom line" and they would transfer you...you could access the store intercom from a cell phone!

I know. He should have verified the ammunition was the correct caliber and grain weight before handing over the cash.

Of course, he shouldn't be complaining. Now, he has a reason to buy a .30-06...

I go to wal-mart only once in a great while, and pretty much only to pick up 22 ammo cause I have a gun that loves the federal bulk ammo.

Now mind you - I have never in my life wished to own a battle rifle (AK or AR) or a submachine gun, or the like, and I don't care at all for tacticool gear, but whenever I go to wal mart, I feel like I'm on a fire mission and hopelessly undergunned. Too many people in that place. Everything from parking to getting in the store to finding your stuff to checking out is a lot like a scene out of Saving Private Ryan, without any weapons.

Interestingly enough, a couple of the WalMarts near me have their ammunition out on open aisle racks. The photos of knives are locked behind the glass, but an entire rack of ammo is out for self-serve. Everything from .22 CB Shorts to .45acp to full rifle cartridges....out on open shelves. I just pick out what I need and go to the checkout up front. No waiting for the guy who is busy balancing the bicycle display.

I don't understand why some ammo is on the open shelves (usually turkey or waterfowl loads and the 100 round bulk shotgun shells), but everything else is locked up behind the counter. Maybe they had problems with people stealing it? It'd be relatively easy for someone to swipe a few boxes of .357 SIG, a 100-round bulk pack of 12 gauge shells, not so much.

As for the video taping part, what major commercial retailer doesn't video tape everything as soon as you walk in the door?

I buy most of my ammo at gun shows, though Wal-Mart's prices are even cheaper. I got tired of having to try and describe the box to someone from the garden center or actually point to it before they understand the difference between 150 and 180 grain .270 bullets. It's generally not much better at any of the other large retailers (like Dick's and Academy Sports), and their prices are usually considerably higher.
