Been thinking about buying a .22 conversion for a 1911, but figured for the $300 or so, I may be ahead to just buy a whole gun. I've heard the Sig is hit or miss and wasn't impressed with the GSG. Saw one post about a sticky safety on the Walther Gold Cup licensed by Colt...anybody else own one of these? Are the somewhat accurate? Thanks in advance!

Hi!
As far as I know GSG belongs to the same company as SIG and therefore GSG builds all .22lr 1911s that are sold under "GSG" and "SIG" brand.
So if you don't like one it's no wonder you don't like the other.
Walther is a different company but as they already have a lot of .22lr handguns (X-ESSE family) that have some familiarity with Hämmerli guns, it might be that the 1911 clones also are made by GSG.

Oh, ok. That makes some sense. I've had 2 Sig Mosquito .22's and they were pretty crappy. I've had a half dozen of the P22's and some were ok, some not. None of them were great. I can always stick to the Ruger mk2 and single 6 I already have...was just wanting a .22 more similar to what I carry.

I just bought an Advantage Arms Unit for a Commander. I put it on a full size ATI steel frame and it works perfect with 36 gr, hp, MiniMags. I just changed the hammer spring to a 19# item from Wilson Combat. Next trip to the range it should work better with 40gr, solid, MiniMags and maybe some bulk ammo.

Here is a photo showing all of the original ATI items (slide, barrel, etc).

Got this thing shooting groups the size of a dime at 15 feet. Really like it. (Paid $250 for it from Big Daddy Guns on EBay)

By the way, this unit holds the slide back on the last shot. Most conversion units will not do that.

If you notice the little steel insert by the slide hold open notch. This keeps the frame (which is an alloy) from wearing out. The lack of this insert is why most conversion units are not designed to hold the side back on the last shot. There is a concern of the steel hold open device wearing out the notch in the alloy frames.

(Just FYI)

I just looked at your original posting. I also have just purchased a Walther/Umarex Colt 22LR pistol. It works perfectly and also holds the slide open on the last shot. However, I make sure and sling shot it when loading from a full magazine instead of releasing the slide by depressing the hold open device. This is because the slide is also alloy but has no reinforcement like the Advantage Arms does. This Walther/Umaarex unit shoots anything I put through it, even low power bull ammo. It is the same size at a full size 1911 but is all alloy. It weighs about 35 oz. and feels really great.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. It's mostly just going to be a range toy and to let novice shooters learn on to get used to function before they get to shoot .45s or .38 Super

The Gold Cup is awesome in the accuracy dept. But my customized 1911 series 70 does absolutely as well.

You would be better off with a Ruger 22/45 those 1911 .22's are cheap junk. The 22/45 has the same grip angle as a 1911 and the controls are basically the same.

TacSol makes a number of .22 conversion kits for the 1911. I have a Model 2211 on an Essex frame I put together many years ago. First rate design and build quality, reliable, and accurate.

The umarex / walther gold cup is an excellent shooter

Will take almost any ammo you feed it

For plinking , a great option

Only downside maybe the lack of aftermarket parts

As far as i know there is not replacement sight for the rear sight

Dawson does make a replacement fiber optic front sight which is great , but even though they sell a gold cup set , the rear will not work / fit the slide

You could also take a look at the other 2 versions that umarex makes

I would recommend the ularex over the gsg / sig 1911 clones
